Now how did Mecho Wars start?
After the disaster that was Eternity's Child, I wanted to start fresh, I still loved the world that I had created, but I knew that something with the EC name would not be good.
So I decided to reinvent that franchise, by naming it Mecho instead. Mecho basically means to me, mechanical organisms.
So to start reinventing the franchise, I decided to start with the war between the winged crusade and the landians that destroyed the world.
A TBS game seemed perfect especially for iPhone and also that it would be easy to port to other platforms and would work well on them.
So that is how Mecho Wars started.
To be able to start fresh, I decided to work with Sean Reid, a ex EA producer and programmer, he quit his job so he could work for Oyaji Games. And the results paid off, we created one of the best TBS games on iPhone. And I'm not being cocky, but we have created a really nice game.
Mecho Wars also needed interesting characters and designs, so I created a main vilain named Mecinni as you can see above. He is the main vilain of the Mecho franchise (kind of like Bowser for Mario and Eggman for Sonic), Mecinni's design is quite good even for other types of titles, since he moves like a snake, and has several tenticles as you can see allows him to perform different actions. But of course in Mecho Wars he is just a general ordering the army.
Since the Mecho franchise is really big and the world has several stories and characters, I decided to work on a cartoon series. This friday I have a meeting with a big cartoon channel, to see if we can move the pilot forward. The goal is not to create a saturday morning cartoon but something good, and that would be also a musical but more of a mix of classical and industrial. We are working on the songs right now.
The Mecho franchise is planned to be different with each game, Mecho Wars is a TBS, Mechopolis is planned to be a robot building game and Mecho Tales will be different tales set in the world. Of course, all these titles won't be out straight away, and I want to take a break from Mecho to produce Rose Princess.
As you read, I am working on a reality tv show, it is a proposed concept, that a producer asked me to do. When I met with one of the executives, I was more busy spinning around my chair than saying the right things. The plan was to do something about the game industry and more about indie devs than the big ones. We'll see what happens with that, if it even gets picked up by a network.
Anyway I won't be posting often on Dtoid, I just wanted to post this to show how Mecho Wars came to life, and how I work now and since it seems most trolls are gone.
I leave you guys with more concept art of the cartoon.
Art direction is looking really nice so far. I'm looking forward to how it comes out. I bet these drawings would be cool with colour.
Garison, This is art of the finished game Mecho Wars.
And that guy in the fourth picture down has 3 arms? o_O
I always love looking at concept art, gives you a glimpse into the vision of the designers.
Is the cartoon gonna be aimed at childs? I mean , your art is beautifull , but in a creepy Tim Burton kinda way ; not sure if it would make sucess with the Ben 10 generation...
aimed at teenagers I would say
what, no super mecho brothers? I have more - super mecho fighter alpha. that one will be great, I bet you could do at least two sequels to that game.
mecho to the past: mecho's awakening. also LEgend of mecho: mechorina of time. don't forget it's sequel "mecho's mask".
Maybe you could branch off into FPS games too? here's one you should consider - simple. "Mecho: combat evolved" or perhaps mechos of war. I also like the sound of "mecho duty 4: mecho warfare". I don't know, this stuff just comes to me. if you need a consultant on your next project, look no further. I got tons of these.
Luc we need to chat chimayou2003@yahoo.com
by the way eternity child what actually happend?
You're certainly busy! As always, I love your art and wish you the best. However, I am curious, are EC and MW still getting WiiWare releases?
@TheCleaningGuy
I repeat EC is not handled by me, the wiiware one, and to be honest I highly doubt the publisher is going to put it out, its been nearly a year now
MW I am looking after that one personally
Oh, sorry, I didn't catch that earlier. I hope EC Wii eventually does see the light of day. I'll probably pick it up on PC anyway after I get a better computer. Now I've got to decide whether to pick up MW on the iPhone now, or wait until it comes out on WiiWare....
Also, I'm pretty excited to see what more you're going to do with the Mecho universe, I love the visuals and I love the idea of doing a different kind of game with each title.
Mecho Wars was developed first for iPhone, so I would suggest the iPhone one since there will be online in a update soon
Cool to see you blogging about your games again, but if you do it daily like with EC last time Luc, don't be surprised if you get flamed. Anyway I always love the artwork from your games and I hope Mecho Wars is as successful as you want it to be.
@Justice
Mecho Wars is out now, and well now I don't talk about my games as much as before. So don't really expect anymore blog posts about my games until 2 months
Nitpicking but...
"kind of like Bowser for Mario and Eggman for Sonic"
No. Robotnik for Sonic. Also for President.
Did you play Soul Nomad at all? Or see it? Look it up. This looks a little similar.
Luc, remember not to speak negative about the robot cause I'm pretty sure that happened last time as well. Which would explain why people jumped on you so quick.
Awesome :) Looks like you're off on the right foot with this franchise, and I can't wait for more. Guess I'll have to subscribe to your other blog for stuff about your other projects, huh?
This looks great dude. The art design is fantastic with the organic and mechanical stuff together.
The screenshots from the earlier blog were also pretty cool. I'd play it if I had an iPhone, but I don't, so I won't.
Get working on a port. You've got my five bucks.
I'm glad to see you haven't given up Luc. You have a lot of potential. I love the art!
I'm going back to school to study audio production, so maybe eventually I could do some audio for you (or music if Sean is busy).
Awesome, man. When is this going to be ported to become a PSP Mini? It's the only way I'll be able to play this game!
