Making Of Mecho Wars
Luc Bernard | 12:48 AM on 06.14.2009 21 comments

Now how did Mecho Wars start?

After the disaster that was Eternity's Child, I wanted to start fresh, I still loved the world that I had created, but I knew that something with the EC name would not be good.

So I decided to reinvent that franchise, by naming it Mecho instead. Mecho basically means to me, mechanical organisms.

So to start reinventing the franchise, I decided to start with the war between the winged crusade and the landians that destroyed the world.

A TBS game seemed perfect especially for iPhone and also that it would be easy to port to other platforms and would work well on them.

So that is how Mecho Wars started.

To be able to start fresh, I decided to work with Sean Reid, a ex EA producer and programmer, he quit his job so he could work for Oyaji Games. And the results paid off, we created one of the best TBS games on iPhone. And I'm not being cocky, but we have created a really nice game.

Mecho Wars also needed interesting characters and designs, so I created a main vilain named Mecinni as you can see above. He is the main vilain of the Mecho franchise (kind of like Bowser for Mario and Eggman for Sonic), Mecinni's design is quite good even for other types of titles, since he moves like a snake, and has several tenticles as you can see allows him to perform different actions. But of course in Mecho Wars he is just a general ordering the army.

Since the Mecho franchise is really big and the world has several stories and characters, I decided to work on a cartoon series. This friday I have a meeting with a big cartoon channel, to see if we can move the pilot forward. The goal is not to create a saturday morning cartoon but something good, and that would be also a musical but more of a mix of classical and industrial. We are working on the songs right now.

The Mecho franchise is planned to be different with each game, Mecho Wars is a TBS, Mechopolis is planned to be a robot building game and Mecho Tales will be different tales set in the world. Of course, all these titles won't be out straight away, and I want to take a break from Mecho to produce Rose Princess.

As you read, I am working on a reality tv show, it is a proposed concept, that a producer asked me to do. When I met with one of the executives, I was more busy spinning around my chair than saying the right things. The plan was to do something about the game industry and more about indie devs than the big ones. We'll see what happens with that, if it even gets picked up by a network.

Anyway I won't be posting often on Dtoid, I just wanted to post this to show how Mecho Wars came to life, and how I work now and since it seems most trolls are gone.

I leave you guys with more concept art of the cartoon.
