Well I've drawn back and forth between one of the biggest questions I think I've asked myself since what I wanted to do with my life. I've saved up enough money and have enough to either do a 360 elite or a PS3 60G.
The Playstation 3 or the XBOX 360?
The 360 was a nogo for awhile because of the failure rate, I even had one that failed on me. But now their remaking them? I loved games like Condemned: Criminal Origins, one of my favorites. I do like Halo, not so much on the multiplayer sometimes. I can also play some of my favorite games like Indigo Prophecy and Chronicles of Riddick, so forth. The Capcom exsclusives are huge for me as well, both Dead Rising and Lost Planet were great games. Gears of War is the biggest one though, not only is the singleplayer amazing but the multiplayer is pretty solid over all as well. Xbox Live is so user friendly where as I'm not experienced with Sony's online interface, which will then bring me to the Playstation 3.
With the PS3 it looks great, my family just got a really nice TV not too long ago and I think that would be sort of neat to see really either of these great consoles to their full potential on a high-def TV. I wonder if it makes Madden sound dumber :[
The PS3 has a lack of games as of now but it's only been out for about a year roughly. Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite titles of all time and I will play MGS4 even if I have to beg them to let me stay a little longer at Gamestop.I could go on and on about the game titles I love for the PS3 that are future releases but you get the point regardless. It's very exspensive obviously, but is it really worth its dollar value? I haven't done much research on Blue-ray.
MY CONCLUSION: If I still have your attention then this is what I have sort of made a decision into a compromise. What if I got a PS3 and added some more memory to my computer and them bought the wireless controller adapter and a 360 controller so I could play GoW and 360 games like that? Any more input I'm missing or any other pointers that you guys could educate me on? All is deeply thanked in advanced.
The fail rate isn't as horrible a thing given that you get 3 years of free replacement if it fails.
The PS3 is uber cheap if you buy a used 20GB PS3.
$370 if you can find one. With $700, you can afford both.
Graphics on both 360 and PS3 are identical so far as I can tell. I haven't looked at any crossplatform games to compare, but since you're talking cross platform, most developers are going to develop and optimize for the less superior of any set of consoles they're working on.
I say PS3. There are still 360s out there with the old chipsets and the old heatsinks. I've been enjoying my PS3 a lot since I got it.
Is the online better on the 360? Yes.
Are there more games for the 360? Yes.
Games for the PS3 are coming and they're working fervently to upgrade the online. I think this coming winter it's going to be really good to be a PS3 owner.
As DVD said. If you can get away with a non-wireless PS3 you can get a 20GB version around for about 350-400$. This gives you a lot more money to spend on games in the future. Hold off on controllers until we know if they're making rumble controllers anytime soon.
If Bluray matters to you and your family for your new TV you could also take that into consideration... If not, no biggie.
@BlindsideDork Yeah I'm a huge PC gamer, I just upgraded all my parts, even got a light inside it ^^ these suggestions are great, it's the input I needed.
@dvddesign I will actually check into that, never even thought about a used PS3 :O Hmmmmm.....
They both have their advantages, and it depends on what you're looking for in the system. Their shared features (Media sharing, for one) are actually quite different. The PS3 is doing fairly well right now, and the 360 is kind of losing it's glorious luster.
Just don't buy a Wii. No PC gamer should ever touch that hedonistic pile of fail and shit until it's worth $250. Unless you want boring games that are good for 20 minutes and then you want to burn them to exorcise the demon within.
@BlindsideDork PC games have their own flavor generally. Example: RTS. Do you remember Starcraft on the N64? Did you see a Broodwar on the N64? ._. In the last year or so my friends have actually become pretty adept at playing FPS's on a console. Anyways, consoles usually hold their own quality of genere. Example: Metal Gear Solid.

about me
My favorite games are Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Castlevania, Alone in the Dark, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Indigo Prophecy, Final Fantasy VI, Clocktower, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
I am not a fanboy. Favoritism towards a particular console is dumb. I enjoy games that happened to be exclusive on a console thus drawing my attention to a console.
I am not your monkey.
I own indepenent thought, Batman #1, multiple Warhamer armies, a world of warcraft account, beer, and also, cocks.

Do you have money for a PS3 and a computer? A lot of people say PC cause those games are apparnetly better?
Do you like games? I'd go with 360, if so.
