So I spent all day collecting screens and footage for
Dragonball Z: Burst Limit. Although I was never a dedicated fan of the show, I've had a soft spot for it since grade school, and when we began working on a
DBZ game for 360/PS3, I wasn't really sure how the boys over at Dimps were planning to up the ante.
Well, all I gotta say is that the game
looks pretty damn good.
A few of the screens I took weren't quite press-worthy, and since they don't really show that much I figure it's better to put them somewhere low-traffic than just let them sit on my hard drive indefinitely. I think these two in particular actually come pretty close to the look of the show. Both are
in-engine; the first is from a cinematic, the second is gameplay.
Am I crazy to think this game looks beautiful?
There's a few DC games you might like that do cell shading pretty well. Cool Cool Toon and Jet Grind Radio for starters
As for me, I think that that Wind Waker and both Jet Grind games did cel shading extremely well.
A lot of the character objects in all three of those games suffered from a bad case of jaggies, but over all those games looked incredible.
I think Dragonball has had more success as a video game license than as an actual television programme.
Maybe you can answer this. Does the story mode only go up to the Freeza saga? I noticed none of the cinematics go past that saga but you can clearly see SSJ2 Gohan and Perfect Cell in one of the trailers (I figured they were secret characters)..........My nerdness is seeping out.
I wonder why it looks so much better than these?
I'd say the Sly Cooper games did one of the best overall jobs with the style. I can't remember anything right now I've seen that is better.
Me too. I suppose we just have to play that game as if it were something else and forget about the Dragonball Z shite.
It's really hard to replicate DBZ fighting in a game.
But DAMN! That's some sexy cel-shading.
I loves me some cel-shading.
