I faced the same problem, but with a much less credible game. I gave the newest Alone In The Dark a whirl, and it had some good ideas (in theory), but the glitches were so outrageous that I couldn't even give it a second try around. I had made it pretty far too, but I figured there was no point going any further if I was just gonna keep falling through the map.
Yeah. Glitches suck. It's bad when it seems that you're the only one who encounters a glitch on a near perfect game, which doesn't allow you to finish it.
One of the downfalls of having been in QA is I can't NOT find glitches. Rarely are they gamebreaking for me anyway, but it's no less annoying. Thankfully, I've fought the urge to write them down.
Also, your banner rules. Magic Sword FTW
Turok Rage Wars had a glitch... the 48th challenge is impossible due to programming error... you kill the monkey, nothing happens... it's haunted me forever because technically I should have mastered that game years ago.
Also,
Mass Effect was one huge unplayable glitch. I quit playing that shortly after i drove over an alien and it got stuck in my vehicle... making me completely immobile.
"Why does this happen and how does it pass Microsoft certification? "
Microsoft does not QA games, blame Tecmo and Team Ninja.
As for why does it happen, that's easy. You found a number of bugs that testers didn't find (or were deemed to difficult to reproduced), so they went unfixed. I haven't played NG2, but knowing Team Ninja I assume the number of glitches found was due to an unreasonable ship date and reduced test cycles.
The worst I've faced is in Fur Fighters. In the Hell Level around the end of the game, a glitch causes loss of control and your character walks off into the lava below. Even if you don't push anything, the game takes control and kills you. I was so upset with this because every other part of the game was top-notch but I was prevented from completing it.
Yeah I copped that glitch too, luckily I got past it somehow and raped that game.
...in the butt.
GLITCHES ADD CHALLENGE TO A GAME.
Funny...I didnt stop having sex when i found out i had aids.
NG2 is easily my biggest disappointment this year.
Yeah they pretty much phoned it in. I was really having fun for a few levels. Not only was it glitchtaculaur but it lacked the awesome feel the "first" one had.
