I may not know you yet but here's some things about me to get this new friendship started.

I wrote stuff, made friends, started a series, joined a team, started whoring out my name, and had my love compared to the smiles of prostitutes.

I think if we could meet and sit down and chat we'd realize that we're not so different, you and I.

Let's be friends yeah?

Here's my interview with community manager Andrew Kauz

Been a while. Now I write about games and anime over at Twinfinite I swear we're good people.

Oddly, Beyamor never shows up no matter how many times I friend that magnificent lumber jack.

I haven't forgotten you Beyamor

Well...He's there now...never used to be. Also, I tried re-formatting that picture. It just disappeared altogether....

I was sitting around my desk today figuring out different ways to kill time when I realized that I’ve actually played a lot of videogames since the last time I spoke to you people. Now I don’t mean you people as in that you guys are different from me, I just mean it in that you guys scare me half to death with all your…productive energy.

Off we go to the fantabulous world of fake words and fungineering!

Shadows of the Damned

I traded in LA Noire for this. Best decision I made this year. This game had everything I wanted in a game, tight pacing, great action, humor, voice acting, and music. Dick jokes? Done in a clever way, or as clever a way you can get away with saying a dick joke. Honestly, I’m going to have to say the same thing as I do with all Suda 51 games and it’s that if you enjoy a good grindhouse movie, Tarantino, From Dusk Till Dawn, you’ll surely enjoy this game; and while the entire game has that grungy aesthetic, the last boss is as operatically beautiful as they come.

LA Noire

Oh LA Noire why? I wanted to love you so much yet you weren’t original, you weren’t even LA Confidential….you broke my heart.

I’ve already written, talked, and ranted about my problems with LA Noire so all I can give you is an abridged version. Nothing you do matters, the game treats you like you’re stupid and punishes you for having your own thoughts, and Cole Phelps is an asshole and yet you’re forced to feel bad for his jerk ass.

Done.

Catherine

I was so happy when I saw the cover of Catherine for the 360. Between you and me I’m more of a butt guy anyways. Personal preferences aside I really did enjoy Catherine. The game is any puzzlers wet dream of great story and great puzzles. I thought to myself jeez, I wish there were an endless mode or something and there was. I still play it if I want a little Tetris fix.

The story is actually done really well and not sexually driven as the misleading advertisement suggests. In fact, I’m pretty sure the M rating came from the swearing and alcohol rather than anything sexual in nature. The choices are delivered in some interesting ways and the morality meter doesn’t even judge morality as it does something much more interesting. The Best Katherine ending is also probably one of the greatest things of all time and all the supporting characters are outstanding. Orlando and Erica especially…I’m getting giddy just thinking about it. Oh yeah, no shame in switching over to easy mode (or very easy mode in my case…shut up).

Batman: Arkham Asylum

You want to be Batman? Either play this game or wait for the sequel. This is by far the second best superhero game I’ve ever played. The first? Spiderman 2. Aw yeah nostalgia goggles have blinded me.

Vanquish

Best. Bullet time. Action. Ever.

You play as super soldier Sam Gideon with the ability to race across cyber fields leaving behind him a field of destruction. The only thing in his veins are awesome and nicotine and when he’s not leaving women swooning in the dust he’s defeating evil Russian robots.

Or at least that’s what I’m imagining in my head.

In reality it does all those things minus the story elements so the game plays amazingly but the story and characters are boring as hell.

I still love it though.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet

You know, the entire game was interesting…Yeah, I had fun and was blown away at times…All that I can’t remember though because I’m stuck on the last boss…And he just won’t die….

Halo 3: ODST

My favorite Halo Campaign. The Halo game for people who don't like modern FPS's.

The philosophy of the Halo games is that you’re a super soldier that does nothing but win wars and kick ass. It’s about Rock n’ Roll and alien destruction and some sort of story which I enjoy but can never remember in detail.

Okay now forget about everything I just said for this.

ODST is slower, more atmospheric…Jazzy.

It’s about vulnerability, fear, isolation. It’s a noir detective story and a Halo game. It’s all about the feel and the feeling is that something is off center. It's you against the world and sadly the world is much, much stronger than you.

I love it.

Well, there’s that.

I always wondered what it meant when someone says “I liked it, but it just wasn’t deep enough.”

I mean yeah, there’s such a thing as trying to grasp too much meaning from something, but wouldn’t it depend on the person if they had any weird philosophical revelation from something?
Another argument in subjectivity I guess.

Ya know, I've played a lot of vidjas lately too...maybe I'd write a blog post. Except I won't write a blog post. Because I'm lazy and unremarkable and honestly I'd rather just play more vidjas.
I wanted to type out a comment but I selected truth and YOU'RE A DIRTY MURDERER, WHY DID YOU DO IT, HUH??
That's a lot of games!! I'm kinda glad that I never bothered with LA Noire. For some reason Rockstar games get a ton of hype and huge review scores, but when you talk to people that play their games, they mostly whine about some aspect or other. :(
I fail hard i guess to see any real difference other than vunerability. In that respect other than fighting in a city which you do in Halo: Reach now anyways I never saw any difference to make it a stand out title. Then again its like when people said Black Ops story was so different because it delved into the mind of one man and had psychological events effecting the main characters perception of events aka a huge departure from CoD's standard fare.....you arent going to care if you don't see it in the same light.

I guess thats what im saying when i say i dont see anything but the superficial differences between ODST and everything else much like you couldnt give a rats ass probably if Black Ops did try something different storywise. Its understandable.

I will say this im looking forward to Master Chief's return if only because he's such an iconic figure in
gaming. Gears Of War wouldnt be the same if Marcus & Dom werent in it and its a small reason why i cant wsit to get back to playing as MC.
Glad to hear I'm not the only person who had really fond memories of spiderman 2. Batman AA was better but still, that game was amazing when it came out. Too bad Spiderman 3 sucked and was a waste :(
Buttguys ftw!
Ugh, I thought odst was such shovelware. Me and 3 friends beat it in an afternoon on legendary. Wasn't fun, but perhaps we rushed through things rather quickly.
Man, I should be a-blogging soon, too. I haven't played much, but I have watched and listened to a CRAPLOAD of materials!
Glad you loved ODST as much as I did. It wasn't my favorite Halo game, but I really dug what they did with it, and hearing my Firefly homies again gave me multiple boners!
I prefer the 360 cover for Catherine too, but all I have is a PS3. Lame. And yeah, the fat sheep were almost too adorable. Especially sheep Morgan, with his little police hat and gun holster. Awwww :D
Gah, I keep seeing great reasons to pick up Vanquish and Shadows of the Damned. Maybe I'll go the same route as you and trade in my copy of L.A Noire, lord knows I'm not playing it.

And big ups to Spiderman 2! Did you waste as much time as I did dropping off the Empire State building and seeing just how close you could get to the ground before web zipping off the safety? Ah good times.
Spider-Man 2 was awesome, the swinging mechanics in that game were so great. The first thing I unlocked was all of the flips he did even if they were useless. My favorite thing was swinging to the highest point and then mashing the buttons to flip as you feel down and the rumble made the controller shake like crazy. My favorite super hero game is still Spider-Man for the PS1 though, even if you need some nostalgia goggles to appreciate that one. Spider-Man 3 for DS was actually surprisingly good as well, the game was ugly and the story was just a sparknotes of the film, but the touch screen combat was pretty inventive. Surprisingly I still haven't played Shattered Dimensions, I'm actually familiar with all of the source material the used in that game, and I'm a big fan of the universes they picked for the game, but I still haven't played it for some reason. I'll probably get to it once I clear out my backlog a little bit.

I haven't done much since I've beaten Ocarina 3D, I beat Digital: A Love Story, and I'm on the last level of Beyond Good & Evil HD right now. I also got the Humble Indie Bundle 3 so I've got some some good games on there to look forward to. I started Mine Craft yesterday and I keep dying.
@Apathy: Luckily for you I can't read.

@Byronic: Screw you ya dirtbag cop! I'm waiting for ma lawyer.

@Elsa: I'm still so very sad. Whining.

@Gareth: Different Strokes right bro? We'll still always have Speed Halo.

@KtMack: Yeah, I haven't played Spiderman 2 in years but my memories are all bright and happy.

@Morty: /Highfive

@Lenigod: It does lose a lot of what makes it special in co op, but I'm not really asking you to play through it again if you don't want to.

@Rex: SENSORY OVERLOAD!!!

@Mr. Dixon: My favorite Halo game is either the first one or Reach. ODST in my opinion has the best campaign...also Firefly voices.

@Bbain: So cuuuuuute.

@Wrenchfarm: I DID do that!!! Oh my god! Most of the time though I died. Also I dropped other people from buildings.

@Sounds like you have a busy week ahead of you : D
My daughter loved, loved, LOVED Shadows of the Damned. In fact all I've heard for the past two weeks is that I need to play it. In fact, I believe she traded in L.A. Noire for it just like you did. :/
Dag...you been playing too many games.
@Jaded: Your daughter is a person after my own heart.

@Caiters: Et Tu Brutus?
@Wrenchfarm & @LawofTD: I would take a hostage up to the top of the Empire State Building and throw them off and then race them to the pavement just to watch them bounce. Spiderman 2 was amazing for letting me do that.
Fappy , I also strangely enough liked ODST even though the story if put on paper sounded like the saggy bastard cousin of what every Halo fan would want ( I guess the fanboi's will devour anything) and as a not so much fan I found it surprisingly fun and different. I loved Catherine too , not so much the ending and strange "moral" decisions but the chaotic nature of the story always kept me interested and the gameplay is addictive as hell, it's the first game in years that has made me imagine new strategies in my head when I'm not playing the game and STILL I get that satisfying feeling in my body when I manage to climb higher and higher , Catherine = Crack = true xD Ohh and I've been scouring the bargain bins for a copy of Vanquish , looks like a something thrilling that can satisfy my need for action (lol) in short bursts (lol again). How nice of you too keep us up to date Lawwy!
Except for Arkham Asylum and ODST, I need to play every single game you mentioned. I am so far behind!
