Another decade is about to close on and let me tell you that these past ten years flew like the wind. The advent of the New Year holiday is about celebrating the end and the beginning of a period however it also serves as a way to commit to individual resolutions in order to change a lifestyle or a behavior. Since gaming plays a huge part in my life, I have decided to set myself ten goals upon which I will develop further below. For 2010, I will;
I have heard so much praise for the Mother series from the cast of RetroforceGo and the Destructoid community combined that I cannot leave this game excluded from my playlist anymore. I will play and finish Earthbound and reconsider this classic as I did with Chrono Trigger last year which was an amazing experience. I am not a huge RPG guy but I can appreciate them and Earthbound is clearly one of a kind in the genre, further proof that I should complete it for my own sake.
I feel kind of ashamed to announce that I've never completed any Zelda games; matter of fact the longest time I’ve spent playing one of the adventures was about two hours long. Let this be my Achilles’ heel for now, I will correct this unacceptable void and I will vowed to complete at least The Legend of Zelda , The Adventure of Link , A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time for the next year. Since there are quite a few titles in the series I won't overburden myself so I can enjoy the games at my pace rather than rushing through the franchise irresponsibly.
The only thing I hate about Persona 4 is that I never had the time to play it. I fell in love with the strong characters (with the amazing voice acting!) the great story and the Shin Megami Tensei universe. This game is a stellar example of excellence in the somewhat overcrowded JRPG genre and is why I need to finish it. It's been about a year since I’ve booted up my disc and I have been regretting it every day of my Persona-less existence. I’m going back to it as soon as possible I promise!
Undoubtedly the most exciting news for fans of the Yakuza series like me was the announcement of Yakuza 3 being released this side of the Pacific Ocean. I have played quite a lot of the second title but yet I was unable to bind the story together and finish the two American ports. The series has a charming "Je ne sais quoi" which draws me back to it every time. Every fan of beat-em ups and RPGs should play this series and cherish it with their lives. This will be my first priority in all my resolutions since Yakuza 3 is at our doorstep.
The Thanksgiving and Holidays Steam sales have shown me that I've left my PC unattended for too many years. Along with Apple’s AppStore it’s probably the cheapest way to enjoy videogames old and new. I can no longer sit back and allow, amazing Russian/Ukrainian games, innovative indie games and old PC classics being left without my undivided affection. I promise to be a better PC gamer and therefore accelerate my metamorphosis into a perfect life form.
I'm still wondering why I haven't played my portable consoles more during the last year. I did play few of my most anticipated games however I have yet again been an incompetent portable consoles owner. Since I won't be around the house quite as much as I use to for the next couple of months I think it's time to benefit from my amazing DS and PSP and start doing some real portable action.
I am still questioning my sanity upon why I bought Modern Warfare 2 to begin with… I think it's mainly due to the fact that I used to be a huge first person shooter player in the first half of the 2k’s with BF1942 and Battlefield 2. Unable to drain the FPS blood in my veins I was unable to resist the unconscious call of buying another war game. Yet I don't enjoy them as much as I used to. Killzone 2 was a good game but I never got into the multiplayer or into Modern Warfare's for that matter. I think it's time to turn the page and start enjoying the games I hold dear to my heart but above all I should stop buying first person shooters about men killing other men for the entirety of 2010.
Thanks to Kauza's fantastic blog about his experience as a female Shepard in Mass Effect. I was finally able to finish the game with the same prefix. Needless to say that it was a marvelous experience much more riveting than my previous attempt with a male. Therefore I have considered this option thoroughly and I will try as much as possible to play female protagonists from now on and see what dept and charm it brings to my game experience.
I've been a devoted collector for 3 years now and I usually make sure that all my systems libraries are relevant of my interests and plentiful for collecting purposes. However my Turbografx 16 collection has been shamefully left to blatant solitude with my lovely Blazing Lazers Hu-card. The time has come to become a real man and start adding some friends to my beloved shoot ‘em up. Air Zonk, Alien Crush, Splatterhouse , Bonk's Adventure , Neutopia and Raiden you will be mine!
I'm a huge fan of arcade shmups and fighters and there is nothing more in life that I would love than building my very own arcade machine in other to enjoy this classic gaming experience. My endeavor may become a laughable piece of amateurism. So long as the essential ingredients are present in the final product, I’ll be a happy camper. Well, these are my ten gaming resolutions for 2010. I have a strange feeling I won't be able to achieve all of them by the end of 2010 but I will sure damn try to do so! I would also like to take this opportunity to communicate my immense love for the Destructoid community and staff and wish you all a happy new year for what will be another great one in videogame JOURNALISM!

Make sure you don't give too much love toward one particular gaming system, don't want the other ones to feel scorned or anything.
...Wait.
Good luck on the arcade cabinet. I tried that twice. Wasn't pretty. Then again I was 14, didn't have a job, and dug the manual out of a pile of reject books in the library. The FPS one is good and I plan on giving my PC mo' lovin' as well.
This really should be January's Monthy Musing.
I've been playing as female protagonists since the first tomb raider... It made me realise that it's way more fun to stare at a chicks hot ass for hours on end then the other option :-) (seeing how many people played ME as a male, it seems a lot of people still don't get that... )
Admirable goals. I like that someone else is growing tired of the FPS genre. It seems like that's almost all anyone plays any more.
Female Protagonists? Why not try Velvet Assassin?
Seconded.
@Cad : I already did! And it wasn't has bad/great? has Jim might have tricked you into thinking. ;)
@Elsa: NO!! NO!!! MAG is definetly an FPS! I Will not BUY IT!!! XD
@Stella Wong : I will!
@BoneClawHugo: Totally man! I'll send you a PM soon enough :P
