About Me
I can't say I'm a fanboy of anything in particular, just love games in general. With the insane amount of time I waste researching and reading about games, hopefully I can pass on some of what I learn to the faithful D-toid community.

WoW addict ends up in jail

So according to Kotaku, this stunning beauty is the most recent MMORPG addict to take her gaming "life" a little bit too far. Turns out she flew from Australia to the US to take her 17 year old World of Warcraft boyfriend home with her.

Now, first of all, the fact that she is a 31 year old college student might have something to do with it, but why do these games drive people to do such ridiculous things? I am a lifelong fan of video games, and I play as much as I can. I just can't see the appeal of these massive online games. Sure, they might be cool for a while, but some people just go nuts with them. So basically, do any of you guys play games like WoW? What are some of the extreme length d-toiders have gone to feed their online addiction?

Yeah, you left out some crucial information...

The boy said he WANTED to come to Australia and wanted to get married. RUMORS that somehow the parents hacked her computer/email. And also the PARENTS paid for her plane and/or train ticket for her to come up and "sort things out" with the whole taking him away thing.

Bail is $2.35 million and facing about 2 years jail time. Of course he is 17, close to 18 and also in Australia the legal age is 16, so maybe that is why she wasn't thinking bad would come of it.

Call it entrapment, call it luring a person into danger (I doubt she would've been so eager to come quickly had the parents of the boy NOT said they'd pay for her trip)...there could be a visit from the embassy to help sort things out.

Regardless of the shadiness of the situation, the fact remains that the woman was still willing to make an international flight based primarily on playing a game. I'm just wondering how some people can believe something like this is going to work out for the best. Did she think her and her new 17 year old boyfriend would be setting off on quests across the Australian outback?

I don't mean to defend her so much (call it playing devil's adovocate) but if someone offered you money to go to another country to at least MEET someone you WANTED to meet, would you do it or no?

Damn rockvillian, that avatar cracks me up every time. Either way, yea, I can see why maybe the offer was enticing, but come on. In any case, it is sort of nice to see a woman getting busted for this rather than a creepy old man like on To Catch a Predator.
