Born in the Alps and raised by a group of wild elk, KnuxSonic migrated to America in the late 1980's with only a swatch watch and his VHS copies of Saved by the Bell.
He began gaming soon hereafter while living in the basement of Funcoland, the one out by the mall (you know, the mall where the Greasers hung out? That one.) Sonic the Hedgehog changed his life. He realized that while he himself had no talent, he could write long paragraphs about nothing, literally! To this day, KnuxSonic still plays entire seasons of MLB 2K7 without remorse.
I hate to pull a "haven't posted forever but comes back to spam something" post, but I rarely do something I feel like I can show off.
This is my (and my cohort's) Unlock Xbox video below. We took a look at the competition and decided it would be a crime NOT to try our hand at a video. It was all filmed in about 4 days and then edited over the course about 13 hours (non-stop even, ugh.)
The basic premise is that a retired-rave-techno-dancer must come out of retirement to take down a new government (called Theman) which is taking away all forms of entertainment. He discovers that rave dancing is their one (and only) weakness, so in effect he is mankind's only hope.
All music is made using ezmuze on Xbox Indie Games.
Please excuse the poor resolution, our HD version was neutered by the upload limit:
Careful with the music tho. I don't mind you using ezmuze stuff in the video, but since it's not 100% "performed" by you and not public domain they might give you some guff about it. (I have a chronic habit of reading EULAs)
Yes, the full HD version is coming, I'm waiting for our camera guy to upload it to youtube.
I was always under the impression that if you changed a song enough (i.e. remix) then it could be considered original. Unfortunately there were not many techno-rave songs out there that are copyright free, so that was the best route we had.
Knux: Sorry for the slow reply. I don't visit Dtoid much. :P
Nah, not anymore, sampling laws have changed. The current law is that no amount of sampling is allowed without authorization. It doesn't matter if the original source is nearly indeterminable. If a sample is used without permission and it can be shown that it truly is pulled from another work, you're SOL. Haha.
The laws started changing around the time when The Verve released Bittersweet Symphony: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitter_Sweet_Symphony
It ripped a piece of a live recording of an orchestrated rendition of a Rolling Stones song. The Rolling Stones won. Also, The Beastie Boys have had some run ins like that too in which the judged ruled even just 3 notes is infringement.
The only type of sampling that seems to go unnoticed is drum break sampling. No one seems to care about that and I agree. It's a drum sample. It's not melodic.
Anyway, I gotta know all this stuff cause music is my thing. Just wanted to let ya know! :D
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
