GH3 multiplayer vids, fanboys cry simultaniously
Kif | 2:07 PM on 06.07.2007 5 comments

Just so we are clear, these are NOT playing the only version of multiplayer. This is a different version. But I've heard enough about it from people, so here we go. IGN have released 2 new videos of some mediocre (But still better than me) Guitar Heros playing a game on the GH3. As you can see from the videos, they are playing a mode which features power-ups, seemingly by using lefty flip, which essentially let you fuck with the other players screen. Good idea, bad idea? Ehhhh, I can't say you'll be seeing me play these anytime soon. Just so we are clear, there is a normal mode of multiplayer. This is a different mode which lets you use powerups. Is the crisis over? Have the fanboys stopped crying? Source: IGN Also this is fucking late, so I will assume this has already been posted. If it has, I'll delort it. EDIT: My bad, I think there's no star power in Battle mode and you get power ups by doing combos as you would Star Power. Lefty flip is a power up you can use on someone else.

It is a way to out perform your partner...so it is less like a band playing together and more like a performance. Take it how you want but kind of is bad.

Even so, it would get incredibly annoying. It looks like the first person to get a powerup has the advantage all the way through the song.

I know this isn't being made by Harmonix, but this just reminds me of the powerups in Amplitdue. It's really just a different way of playing the game. Instead of just being good at hitting more notes than the other player, you need to learn how to deal with and use the different powerups.

Oh, and I just realized. With the lefty flip powerup if you're on pro face off you could just look at the other player's track...

Oh my God.

I'm a huge fan of this series and I have been since before day one. I know I'm going to be playing this soon, too, so I should probably reserve judgment, but ...

What the FUCK are they doing to Guitar Hero? The beauty of the game was in its simplicity. These new battle modes, while I'm sure will be optional, are totally unnecessary to the experience. I can't even freakin' IMAGINE what a boss battle is going to be like ... ugh.

Seriously, the direction the series needed to take was more songs through downloadable content. Even if they decided to not go that route, just stick with the formula. Christ. It's my understanding they don't have the same code that Harmonix worked with, but just copy it and move on. It's a no brainer. They're over thinking this.

I hope I'm wrong and it's just the best thing ever. I hope to find out at E3. Ugh. :(
