Where is the fighting game post. YOU SAID THERE WOULD BE A FIGHTING GAME POST!
Also yeah, dude, your girlfriend is the most hardcore sonyfan I've ever met.

I'm all about having preferences but fanboyism is just lame. It defeats the purpose of trying to have a pleasant conversation about games and gaming.
Owning just one console does not make you a fanboy, it simply doesn't. There are a million factors that could contribute to owning just one, and to group those people in with fanboys is simply incorrect
YES SAMSUNG!!! KOREA'S greatest export! Also I'll have to agree with Om Nom, I'm too poor to afford more than one console.
@ OmNom & Thermal
There are 3 main symptoms that make one a fanboy, it's not simply just owning the one console, I believe I spent a great deal of effort to explain that simply owning a console does not make you a fanboy.

Its classic fanatacism. And once people are invested with their subject of choice, their opinion cannot easily be changed. Some people are more suscepitible to it than others.
The only thing that changes individuals is large movements and social pressure from a lot of people and sources. See, once people have invested enough time in beliving something to be true, they will - even in the face of flawless contrary evidence - refuse to accept their folly and move on.
For example - if the catholic church tommorrow said that their god is actually an ironing board and that people need to stop ironing - there would be a core group who would adapt to this and follow it. Console fanboys are our hobbies equivalent of these people.
This is because they don't want to think that all those hours spent invested in their opinion were useless and a waste of their life. Classic denial. As a species that values time and frets over its use (because we are aware of our impending deaths), this will never change.
To bring this large scale point back to topical relevance - a fanboy will, even if it proven infalliably that his console causes 100% of its male users penises to invert into quasi vaginas, he will still cling to and defend his console, and even assert why having a quasi-vagina is better than not having one and playing the other console. This is because he is institutionalised.
The only thing that will cure him is his system slowly declining and him being provided with another object for his fanatacism, likely a new console by the same company.
There is no point reasoling with a fanboy, or a fanatic of any kind. Its a bit like how the scientists often try and point flaws in religions out to people. While they may be correct, you can't reason or convince away blind faith, and the scientists are therefore wasting their breath. Telling a fanboy to open his horizons and encouraging change is also a waste of time.
I think they are the kind of people who would be annoying you in some other way, even if they weren't fanboys anyway.
All you can do is try and identify the fanatics early and avoid them before they begin to waste any of you life, too.

Relax, man, you're among friends here. You'll be hard-pressed to find a community that keeps out the fanboys better than this one. I'm still impressed at how Dtoid's managed to do it.
At any rate, fanboys will be fanboys, whether they're obsessed with game consoles, sports teams, or political parties. There's a disturbing amount of people content to stamp a logo where a personality should be, and the internet has allowed these individuals to congregate and reenforce their stupid, fearful reactions to the world around them. They whip each other up into a frenzy and become an internet militia, ready to fight a flame-jihad in the defense of an organization that doesn't see them as anything more than a profit point or a voting bloc.
There's good news, though: you don't have to care. What concern is it of yours that other people are flying into an impotent rage over pointless garbage? Just enjoy playing games and only bother with others that can do the same without making it personal.
