About Me
Long time gamer. Started in the 80's when I was a wee lad back on a Commodore 64 (it's a very old computer for you young folk).

I primarily game on my PS3. PSN tag is Kalakaua. I have a 360 and Wii, don't play them. Wii is basically used for virtual console and my 360 has been collecting dust since Halo 3. For some reason it just doesn't do it for me.

I haven't been keeping up on this game so maybe someone can fill me in.

What's the big awesomeness of this game? This is a honest to god question, not trying to be an ass.

All I have ever seen were pictures of that same weird looking thing and someone at work showed me a video that didn't wow me. It looked good but nothing like it's the second coming or some shit like that. It's a shooter yes? So what sets this apart from the way to many other shooters I already own? *shrug* I'm just asking because people seemed hyped about this thing but I'm wondering what it is I'm missing that others are seeing.

Much of the love is because of the universal love of System Shock. Copy pasta'd from Wikipedia, since this blip pretty well explains it:

"Since the game is a spiritual successor to the System Shock series, and is being developed by former developers of that series, many features and themes are revisited in the game. Levine pointed out many of the similarities during his narration of a video initially screened for the press at E3 2006:

* The theme of a once-bustling habitat now overrun with mutated humans and robot adversaries.
o The shopping districts in Rapture resemble the mall of the Von Braun in System Shock 2, in particular.
* "Plasmids" serve the same function that cybernetic modules did.
* Audio recordings serve as the same storytelling device that email logs did, such as "the musings of a demented musician who went mad with rage at a rival singer's constant parodies of his work - and eventually had her killed."
* Andrew Ryan serves the same role that SHODAN and The Many did, communicating with the player remotely and working as a God-like antagonist/puppet master.
* The player will be subjected to dealing with an environment full of security cameras, turrets, and drones, and will sometimes be forced to hack security systems.
* Ammo conservation will again be stressed as "a key gameplay feature".
* One of the weapons in the game is a wrench. Other weapons include the shotgun, pistol, tommy gun, grenade launcher, chemicalthrower, crossbow, and a camera. Each weapon ( Except possibly the camera) has three types of ammunition, including one which you must invent.
* It was revealed on a PCGamer UK podcast that the Staff at Irrational Games see Bioshock as a 'Shock title'.
* The use of a camera is confirmed, used to research an enemy's weaknesses."

Oh, that's not to say it wouldn't stand on it's own. I just mean that a good deal of the initial hype was from the SS fanbase.

Well worth investing in, if you happen across either of them on eBay.

Lemon I recommend you get system shock 2 and play it before bioshock, you are missing out on a GREAT game and they may throw in some 'easter eggs' in bioshock regarding ss2 ( I would not be surprised if they did).

There have been RPG FPS before, but none done in such a way. The strategy you encounter is wholly different than what you would encounter in many other FPS.

I'd put it on the far end of the spectrum, as far away from Serious Sam and Doom as you can get. More resident evil than Doom or Quake.
