About Me
I'm a PC gamer by nature, looking to see what's good on the console side of things (plus I'd rather not pay hundreds each year to upgrade). I love finding classic games, and will take any chance to tell you about an underdog.

I'm Currently Playing
PS3 - Mercenaries 2, Lair, Soul Calibur 4, SFII Turbo HD Remix
PS2 - Final Fantasy X, Digital Devil Saga, Haunting Ground
Wii - De Blob, Okami, Twilight Princess
VC - Donkey Kong Country

My Favourite Games
Planescape: Torment
Realms of the Haunting
Outcast
Chrono Trigger
Shadow of the Colossus

I'm not a High-Def nut (Edit: Am now in High-Def, but won't go nuts over Brown and Gray, just yet), I think there's plenty of Low-Def stuff for me to catch up on for a good long while. So if you think I might like a particular game, tell me about it!

*I was angry when I started writing, then I relaxed upon switching from coffee to tea. But read on, if you will...*

I know Nintendo of Europe are trying; 'working on it' you might say. But I really don't see the effort.

The whole reason we EUs are unhappy with waiting for a game released in the US 6 month previously, is because we're waiting for a game for 6th months.

"But Buck!", you might cry, "That's a tautology!"

And after a moment to look the word up on Wikipedia, I'd agree with you. It makes sense. We're upset because we have to wait so bloody long for a game that is still going to have American English as its language, as well as some other EU languages for those who pay less tax, work less, and live longer... I hate the UK. But No!

You might think NoE would understand this fact. We bitch and moan about it enough, like someone on Big Brother denied fags (UK meaning) and booze. But apparently not. To NoE, it's not the waiting that irritates us, it's the release date. Which is why I've noticed a few games, already released elsewhere, delayed more than once. How can you get get translation and localization so wrong?

Take Baroque. A niche Dungeon RPG, with niche rogue-like gameplay. You might have dismissed it as being too hard, and having to start from scratch every time you die. If you thought this, you've made as big a mistake as assuming a Final Fantasy games protagonists would be ugly (also known as photo-realistic) testosterone-pumped, and yet not at all moody; or that Metal Gear Solids dialogue would be terse, to the point, and not at all hippy-like.

Baroque had a release date of June 27th, initially. Then that slipped to July 4th. And now, we won't be seeing this gem until August 1st, a date that smacks of "We have no friggin' Idea 'when'!"

Okami, the divine lupine adventure game, and Brawl are other examples.

So is this the trend now? In the same way that moron called us out for being "Geeks and Otaku", and yet didn't actually apologise (but regretted that 'we' misunderstood), are Nintendo attacking the symptom (Press Releases) rather than the disease (The dick-heads who issue said Press Releases).

Which is better? Waiting for 6 months, or waiting for 3, then 1, then another 2?
Should I just order all my games from the states, where by the time they're released in the EU, they're already discounted in the US? How well does the Region Free thing on the Homebrew Channel work? Honestly?

Baroque was an okay game, far from the epic RPG everyone makes it out to be. Too much repetition to pass as a decent action title, and not enough customization to be considered a "Rogue-like." As for the difficultly, the only thing really hard about it is the story (Imagine GITS as written by Franz Kafka on LSD).

As far as European gaming goes... Move to America. No, seriously, thats the best advice I can give. Just move to America, and ignore everything about this place that isn't video game related.

Australian...I feel your pain. It's the uncertainty that does it, just give me a date and leave it at that, don't tease me with constantly growing time periods between me and the game I want to play.

Aside from that, you write terribly well, Cblogs that are as readable as this are a rarity.

@SunTzu I guess I'm living in hope for Nethack or Slash'em to appear on console. It couldn't be that difficult to make and refine for consoles? But then how many people would play it :(

What's the saying? "America would be perfect, were it not for the Americans". But the I'm sure that could be said about anywhere.
