About
I play games and also make them.

I've recently graduated from Boston University's MS Media Ventures (http://bit.ly/J6x9Aj) program, and I'm on a quest to find my dream job in game design. My strengths and most relevant experience are in UI & UX, feature design, writing, and customer research. I also have a background in animation from undergrad and some experience with 3D modeling, which I'm working on improving in my free time.

I blog about what I'm playing and what I'm making, plus thoughts on the industry and anything else I think my fellow Dtoiders will find interesting.

There's still a lot I could write on Dwarf Fortress and Dark Souls, but time is short my friends. I am moving on to other games for this blog. Diversity in experience is important after all! I do plan to keep playing Dark Souls, but likely not as much.

Bastion is next up for single player. I'd like to play this on XBOX since that was its first platform, but we have 2 avid gamers in this apartment and only one XBOX so it might be easier to schedule if I play it on PC. To those who have played it on both: is it a good port to PC? Will I have a significantly different experience playing on XBOX?

League of Legends is next for multiplayer. One of each seems to be a good balance for blogging about. Who here plays? I'm brand new so if you're high level we won't be able to play together effectively for a while yet, but no harm in building a list of friends! Any tips for the newbie? :D

I'll give you a major tip for League of Legends: Right now, you should pick a character you want to get good at and focus on them. Otherwise, you'll need to not only learn the basic mechanics of the game but also the skills of each new character you play.

lolpro.com and solomid.net have very good tournament quality guides.
I would personally not play with random people in LoL, I suggest getting a group of friends together because the community is often very negative to new players.
I agree with Corupt.

Play with friends, in a 5-person group or at least with one other friend. The community is one of the most negative I have ever seen. It is the main reason I stopped, even some of my friends turned into mean spirited individuals.

Try to master a small handful of champs (3-6), or at least one champ for each role (a new player can and should avoid jungling). Learn different builds from the sites Caliban listed. Learn hard-counters to champions you are up against, or the counters to the items they are using. Learn mastery set-ups. Learn the lingo (top, bot, mid) and the "meta". Doing that is a good start. There is also other things such as "last hitting minions" to ensure you get the gold. The list goes on.

Play vs. AI for the first 1-4 levels otherwise prepare to see a lot of griefers and/or leavers. I personally probably played wayyyy too many bot games, not that it hurt may performance, but it would freak some people out to see the number of wins I had respective to my level.
