Now that the Sega COO has warned that
that sequelization may be a coping mechanism with the recession, does that mean we're getting the sequel to
Yakuza 2, which I will now post screenshots of? What happens if it's a sequel that sells roughly as much as new IP, but is still awesome?
You know what's the right answer? MARKETING. Sega is spending too much fricking time marketing terrible, horrible, rotting pieces of hedgehog feces and not enough time advertising their best games.
Valkyria Chronicles,
Yakuza 3,
Empire: Total War,
Sakura Taisen, and all kinds of excellent properties are passing through the ether without but a whimper, while Sonic makes the kinds of headlines that torpedo peoples' faith in the former monolith.
REDEEM YOURSELVES, SEGA, USE YOUR MARKETING FOR GOOD, NOT STUPID.
And now screenshots:
IT HAS GOLF
IT HAS HOSTESSES
IT HAS KICKING. EVERYONE THINKS THAT ALL J-GAMES ARE ABOUT PRETTY BOYS WITH ANGST. THIS THING RIGHT HERE IS THE COUNTER ARGUMENT. A HUGE GUY WITH EPIC SIDEBURNS AND A LEISURE SUIT STRAIGHT KICKING HOODIE PUNKS. WHAT THE FUCK SEGA GIVE US THIS GAME ALREADY.
Whew!
With the immense amount of translation to be done in this game, chances for a translated version are pretty slim, but even if Sega loses money bringing it over, they should do it either way.
SEGA: "We marketed Yakuza 1 a lot but used bottom-of-the-barrel localization, so now everyone thinks it's crap. This soured everyone to Yakuza 2, which came out properly translated but two years late and only gave each Gamestop ONE FUCKING COPY. Now that Yakuza 3 is coming out and looks amazing, we're wondering if anyone will actually buy a sequel two installments in, even when Yakuza 2 had such lengthy (optional) flashback sequences that made the issue moot. GOD, we should have at least put up that awesome poster for Valkyria Chronicles! Hey, wanna buy Sonic and the Black Knight?"
Ryu ga Gotoku is currently my favorite Sega franchise (goddammit, release Virtual-On 5!), and it's a real shame that Sega is so slow on localizing these games. Hell, I'd be happy if they skipped over Kenzan to bring this to the states. Perhaps, if I annoy the hell out of them at PAX this year, they'll localize it quickly.
In my opinion, Sega has made some of the best games of the last few years, It's just a shame that their amazing stuff is swallowed by pounds upon pounds of Sonic.
Also, yes it does look amazing.
I'll be importing the Japanese version as well. If you need any help with the Japanese, etc let me know.
PSN: SAL-PARADISE-
I went thru Kenzan without too much trouble since I know enough Japanese, so this shouldn't be too tricky. Looks like an awesome game.
I don't think 3's going to make it across the sea to us, and I've all but stopped learning new Japanese phrases let alone hiragana, so importing won't work for me. I'd *love* it if it did though, because it just looks gorgeous.
I'm so not touching Sonic and the Black Knight. Haven't touched a Sonic since the Genesis version of Sonic 2.
