"Where do dreams end and reality begin? Videogames, I suppose."- Gainax, FLCL Vol. 1
"The beach, the trees, even the clouds in the sky... everything is build from little tiny pieces of stuff. Just like in a Gameboy game... a nice tight little world... and all its inhabitants... made out of little building blocks... Why can't these little pixels be the building blocks for love..? For loss... for understanding"- James Kochalka, Reinventing Everything part 1
"I wonder if James Kolchalka has played Mother 3 yet?" Jonathan Holmes
The audio is kinda quiet, and the video is a long one, about ten minutes, but none of that matters because this guy ACTUALLY LIKES DEAD RISING: CHOP TILL YOU DROP MORE THAN I DO! Amazing. I never thought I'd see the day.
I have to tell you guys, it's been a really weird experience to be the only person in game journalism who seems to think that Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is "good". Sure, most of the people who still bash the game haven't even played it, but it still mystifies me that a game that to me is so obviously fun is still so generally despised.
Just imagine if everyone you talked to suddenly hated pizza, even people that had never even eaten it before. More so, imagine if those same people started to treat you like you were weird for liking pizza; that liking sauce, cheese and bread together suddenly meant you had bad taste in food or something.
Wouldn't it make you think that maybe they're right, that pizza actually does taste bad, and there is just something wrong with your taste buds that tells you otherwise; or worse, that you had some sort of weird, subconscious bias towards pizza, and that if you were really honest with yourself, you'd find that you hate pizza just like everyone else?
I've had my moments like that. Even though I've been buried in new games for review, I've still checked in with Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop every few days, just to see if maybe I suffered some sort of temporary insanity for the week that I played it every day for review.
Every time I check in with it, I have to force myself to stop playing. It's really fun, just like RE4:Wii, but with worse graphics, but more types of enemies, weapons and attacks to make up for it.
Anyway, has anyone here even played the game yet? If not, let me challenge you all now. Anyone here who plays DR:CTYD from beginning to end and writes a blog about their experience will get a box of cookies and rock, sent via express mail.
I've already gotten tons of emails saying that my review was the best one the game has gotten, and that's great. I really appreciate that. Sadly, these are emails from people I've never met, so for all I know, they are even crazier than me. If you like cookies and rocks, and you're not crazier than me, it would be really nice if you helped me reality test on this situation.
And while your at it, could you play LittleBigPlanet and let me know if the run of the mill level design, crappy controls, and lack of enemies and power-ups also left you feeling a little flat? That would be cool.
I mean from beginning to end, plus unlocking all the bonus missions and sniper missions, which only takes an extra hour or so.
To beat them all would take a lot longer, so I wont ask that of you, but if you at least see everything the game has to offer in regular play, I figure that would be enough. That's what I had to do for the review, so I figure that's fair.
You have intrigued me, sir with your now multiple offers for cookies and now the added bonus of rocks.
When I finish up Madworld and funds are permitting I'll see about finding a copy of DR:CTYD.
Oh, and funnily enough, in that video review when Frank West walked by a signpost I half expected him to pick it up and drive it through his enemy's body.
I do have to agree with you about LBP. Honestly, for somebody who isn't creative like me, the game is total shit. It's just not that much fun. If it didn't have charming visuals and cute sound effects and music, it wouldn't be worth a damn.
As for Dead Rising, I'm glad you're enjoying it. But I personally feel there are better games that are more deserving of my money. If all I owned was a Wii, I'm sure I'd be playing it right now no matter what. It can't be that horrible, right?
This is Capcom after all. They generally don't make horrible games. They're usually mediocre at worst, amazing at best. That's why I love them.
I can't promise what I'll do when it actually comes to putting these packages together. I may take some left over mashed potatoes and onion rings and put them in a plastic bag and call that a "cookie".
I'm hopping on the cookies and rocks bandwagon. And I promise to play this game eventually! I just need to finish RE4 first (yeah, I'm way behind on games). And money.
I just got the game, and I like it more than the 360 version. I don't know if I will be able to play through the whole thing though, because I'm also playing MadWorld, RE 5, and GTA: Chinatown Wars to name a few.
It won't let me PM you... It says "Sorry, that file is not found." It's been doing this for a while. I was excited for cookies and rocks, too. :( (Or whatever you'd really be sending. :P)
Jonathan: That image is causing me strange, conflicting emotions...
Now I REALLY need to buy this. The addition of Data on the arm totally totally sold me.
@ Alex- Yeah, Chad says the same thing, but when I played LBP's co-op for review, the person I was playing with kept asking if the could quit because playing the game was like "watching paint dry".
Then I hear about someone like you who thinks the on-disc levels are great, and it's like two different worlds.
@ Everyone- My Pm box only has six more openings in it, and after that it's deal over.
im in Mr. Holmes, if you don't remember me, i have been one of many adamant supporters of your opinions on DR:CTYD.
That been said...i have just bought madworld so will be late on the purchase...
Also make sure them cookies can stay fresh till they arrive here in sweden, or alternatively stick with the rocks and for your financial security i recommend lighter precious stones...
did you know that Frank has a Mega Man Legends Roll outfit in Chop Till You Drop?
This wasn't directed at me, but I did not know this, and now that I do, I'm pretty sure I just spent $40. Anything with MML material in it is an instant sell.
¡°It's just not that much fun. If it didn't have charming visuals and cute sound effects and music, http://www.pspconverter.com it wouldn't be worth a damn. ¡±

Also, that LBP jab, you cheeky fellow.
As far as LBP goes, if the level design is bad, then get on creating the good levels! :D
To beat them all would take a lot longer, so I wont ask that of you, but if you at least see everything the game has to offer in regular play, I figure that would be enough. That's what I had to do for the review, so I figure that's fair.
Yeah, that's why I gave the online aspects of LBP a 10/10. I would have given the MGS4 DLC a 10/10 as well.
The on disc content, on the other hand, wasn't so great IMO.
I could use those cookies ...

Even if you don't play the game, it's cookies and rocks on the house. PM me your addresses and expect some fun in the mail next week.
@ Cadtalfryn- I know, right? To me, MadWorld and Dead Rising are two sides of the same coin.
It's all good. :P
I agree the levels that are on the disc are really boring... I spent about a day with them and have no desire to ever play them again.
I need some cookies man....starvin n shit man....I'm hungry...
Also, that avatar is pretty awesome.
I'M CRAZY LIKE DAT
So far, only Jimbo has jumped on the bandwagon.
Oh, and Cleaning guy, did you know that Frank has a Mega Man Legends Roll outfit in Chop Till You Drop?
I'll add it to the post now, just for S&Gs.
p.s. Don't send me anything.
