New Blast Works (Tumeki Fighters Wii) video: The ultimate customizable game?
Jonathan Holmes 8 comments

Our good friends over at IGN have an exclusive video of the upcoming Wii game Blast Works. The original free ware version of the game, Tumeki Fighters, is already a cult classic. There is no way I would not support this retail sequel/remake. As matter of principal, I but indie games based on original concepts. As a great man said "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." How can I sit around and complain about all these cookie cutter FPSs and JRPGS if I don't support the indie alternatives?

But after seeing this video, my motive to support the indie game scene has nothing on my hard core lust for this game's customize mode. From the looks of it, Blast Works basically allows you to build any low poly character you want and throw it in the game. Ever wanted to make your own 2D shooter? Well, it looks like now you can, with nearly no restrictions.

This game just went from "Sure, I'll buy that whenever" to "I wanted this game to come yesterday" status.

Your thoughts, 'toid?

Oops, I read that as blast corps and got excited for a VC release/sequel of that ancient n64 game, which would be pretty sweet in itself.

Thats a pretty robust looking editor--i dont understand why he had to go and make his detailed work of art utterly invisible in the last few seconds, but that is pretty amazing.

That's going to be nuts. I thought it'd suck, but now, I think it's gonna be great.

Looks pretty darn cool like video game Lego almost.

I shot gun Metal Gear Rex!

I just played the original and I'm beginning to see that this game is looking a lot less like the toy-based shmup the original is, for better or worse.

 about me

I love videogames, but I don't really like videogames that wish they were action movies. Exceptions to this rule include the Resident Evil series, No More Heroes...and that's about it. So Metal Gear Solid, Gears of War, God of War, and Call of Duty: World at War can all kiss my half-black ass.

Well, that's not all true. I do like the story of Metal Gear Solid a lot, but the gameplay is freaking awful. I've actually bought every game in the series, but had to force my ex-roommate to play them for me so I could see how the plot turns out. So I guess Konami won that round.

Games I do like include Castle Crashers, Smash Bros, Bionic Commando, and just about every old-school 2D platformer ever made (except Kieth Courage in Alpha Zones *shudders*). As you can see from the end of this video from E3 08, Mega Man 9 was pretty much the most painfully awesome game I ever played.

I also like making sprites, like the ones for Dtoid's Mega Man Maker. Hopefully I'll get to make more down the line. If I have the time, and if I like you, I could even make you an avatar from those types of sprites. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

My dream game would be a 2D fighter that looks like Street Fighter III, plays like River City Ransom, and features Travis Touchdown, the dude from MadWorld, Bonk, and Buckaroo Banzai all kicking ass and eating Merv Burgers.

You hear that world? Make that game happen, and don't come back until you do.
