About Me
"Where do dreams end and reality begin? Videogames, I suppose."- Gainax, FLCL Vol. 1

"The beach, the trees, even the clouds in the sky... everything is build from little tiny pieces of stuff. Just like in a Gameboy game... a nice tight little world... and all its inhabitants... made out of little building blocks... Why can't these little pixels be the building blocks for love..? I'm in a magazine and I got some stuff!
Jonathan Holmes | 5:39 PM on 01.22.2012 29 comments

Hey get ready for a blog about me and stuff that's great for me! It's all about me, everybody! I have no idea why you would care about any of this, but here we go!

First up, I was published in latest Gamefan magazine! Actually, both me and Dtoid's Welsey Ruscher were both published in this issue! If you like Dtoid, you should buy it, because it is like Dtoid in magazine form. Classic Gamefan (and it's spin-offs Mega Fan, Game-On, and multiple strategy guides from Versus Books) were pretty much the inspiration for me to write about videogames, so getting to write for the magazine both felt like a dream come true and a welcoming home. And look how big it is! Much bigger than stupid old Game Informer!

It's a pretty hard magazine to find, but if you look at your local mega book store (yes, they aren't all out of business... yet) you might be able to find one.

Here is my spread! It's about the recent Level-5 event and the games that were talked about there, including Ni No Kuni, Guild 01, and the new Layton games. Don't try to zoom in and read it because it wont work unless you have very small, very powerful eyeballs (like a very little microscope).

That's not all I got in the mail! I also got a hardcopy of Magnus "Souleye" Palsson's new CD, Adventure. His cover of the Talking to women about videogames song is on it! I'm so flattered!

I also got some awesome stuff in the mail from some community members... last month. I've been meaning to thank them since then, but I keep getting side tracked. I'm sorry guys! Thank you so much!

First up is a Skyward Sword Christmas card and Lollipop Chainaw sticker from Swishee-

Some rad videogames and a Jonathan Holmes Defense Club membership card from Vlah Zhao-

And a Lollipop Chainsaw foam chainsawfrom Swishee, and a Chimpmunks movie from Adam Dork-

Adam sent me some other stuff too, but it was too evil to show you. WAY TOO EVIL!

I am pretty sad and stressed out at the moment, pretty much on my own with a lot of daunting new stuff in life, but with people being this good to me, it's pretty easy to cheer myself up, at least for a moment. Thank you guys SO MUCH for being so good to me. I really don't deserve it, but that doesn't mean I'm not grateful. I look forward to the opportunity to attempt to make you all as happy as you have made me.

I LOVE YOU JIVE TURKEYS

Grats Holmes! I hope one day you live the dream, and get your own lucrative deal doing something you love 24/7.

That must have been amazing to be able to contribute to the magazine you used to read. :D I hope life gets a little easier for you! Jonathan Holmes deserves to be sad never.

Well Jonathan, you being someone who cheers me up on a weekly basis (even if you don’t know it), I’m sorry all I can send you is my best wishes when you’re feeling down. So yeah, good vibes heading your way, should take about six hours for them to cross the Atlantic.

Also, how is Ni No Kuni purely as a game? I’m not a huge Ghibli fan, I like ‘em just fine, but I don’t want to put up with hours of dull gameplay to enjoy the story, or is it one of those “taken as a whole it’s good” games?

Also, also, do you think the final boss will be a big blob of black sludge, because they really love that stuff.

Congratulations on getting published! I think I'll put together a care package for you. Yeah, that sounds like a great idea.

Damn, I don't think I've ever seen an issue of Gamefan in sale near me :( Congrats on being published "for real", though!

Love you Holmsey. Sorry you're not feeling too good, but I'm glad my goodies were able to cheer you up. Congrats on the writeup in the magazine!

Also, here's a picture of Max holding the very same chainsaw you're holding in the picture. One of my favorite pictures from PAX.

What's a magazine?

Kidding (obviously)

Congratulations on getting in GameFan. A Disgaea cover GameFan at that. Also, DONKEY KONG! Good day for Holmes.

Congrats! I'll have to head to the book store tomorrow and see if I can track that down.

And your place is lovely. I dig wood floors and natural wood trim. Could do with a ceiling fan in there, but it's very nice all the same.

Awesome stuff I'll have to head by a bookstore soon, and see if they have it. I hope you feel better Holmes. Here's an e-Hug, *HUGS* I hope that felt nice and warm.

Dude, they should hire you for EDGE magazine. No, seriously. Future Publishing mostly hire on a freelance basis, anyway.

What's the worst that could happen if you throw an email their way, asking for a column (it worked for Tim Rogers...and he's shit!)?

Congrats, man!

Congratulations on getting in GameFan, I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy it (not in the US) but I'll keep an eye out for it. And I hope that whatever is going on with your life that's making you sad will work out for you.

That's my first time seeing a Gamefan magazine so they must be rare. Disgaea is on the cover though, so it's probably worth reading. Good to hear that you wrote for a magazine you loved as a child though, sounds like you're living the dream. Hear that, THE DREAM! So don't be sad, cheer up. I don't know about you, but I think you're a lucky guy that a few people are probably jealous of.

Sorry to hear you're feeling sad JHolmes. You should just stop being sad and continue to be awesome instead. Congrats on getting published in that extra large magazine. Never heard of it before, but glad it's a publication you really like!

Congrats Holmes!

Has anyone else from the Dtoid staff been published before in a gaming magazine? Is Holmes the first?

Jonathan Holmes, you are hilarious. I love Podtoid, it is my favorite thing in the world to listen to. You, Jim, Max, and Tara (miss her) are so hilarious together and I like your show more than a fat kid likes butter filled cake. Keep up the excellent, and always amazing work. I am really looking forward to your new show, Sup Holmes. My mic isn't working the best buy I sent you a couple old man questions to your email.

Well done on dat magazine Holmes!

I wish I could physically give you a pat on the back and verbally tell you how great you are to make you feel better but all I can give you are virtual pats and text based support. And for that I am sorry. But just know that you are an inspiring man and that you bring a special childlike wonder and energy to destructoid that nobody else can provide. And there are tons of people you've never even met before that love you for that. So keep doin what you do.

And you're really pretty.

That copy of Donkey Kong is in alright shape, but I've got a nicer one. I'll have to remember to send it to you sometime along with the Mushroom Men book.

Also, do you like the somewhat old cartoon shows Samurai Jack or Megas XLR? Let me know and I might have something extra to send to you when I actually get around to it.

Finally, here's a photo to post on the Men Going Their Own Way Forums.

Hope that link works and\or you like the picture.
