This is where I'd normally just copy-paste the stuff from the
DeviantArt page, but NO! Dtoid deserves better!
There once was a game called
Persona 4.
It was a very good game, that many people said was very good. And things.
This is a little snippet of that, on
your desktop.
Made this sheerly because I was bored, and the GiantBomb endurance run having "I'd have that widget on my desktop" said. So what the hell, ya know? Fire up Photoshop, get cracking in Notepad++, and here's the products of my labour.
Everything works like it should (hopefully) and the weather even syncs with your real life weather, using Yahoo. The little text saying time of day? Yeah, that changes too. I did have a big thing flash up on the screen like in P4, but it decided to break, so I removed it.
I should probably also mention that you'll need
Rainmeter to use this, too. Very nifty little app. You'll need the Enigma files installed in order to run this for the Weather function, but Rainmeter comes with it anyway.
To install it, you simply have to plop the Persona 4 directory into your "My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\" directory and go from there.
Aaand that's pretty much it. Make sure that if something breaks horribly, you sound off in the comments and I'll get cracking at fixing it. And feel free to suggest something else to do, if I fancy it I'll give it a shot.
You can grab it from my dA, here.
*UPDATE*
As per request, I've done a Persona 3 edition, too. Everything from above applies still.
You can grab this, also from my dA, here.
Additionally, for those who say that the weather doesn't work, there's not much I could do to fix it, so instead I synced it to change the weather periodically instead of getting data from Yahoo.
I've updated the original file on dA, so you'll need to redownload that.
For some reason that place where cloud icon is on the picture blank for some reason. Is it because I need to input info about my location manually? I never used that Rainmeter before.
Thanks a million.
With that said, I would perform sexual favors for you if you would make a P3 themed one. Lots of favors.
<3
You know, I'm actually planning on doing just that, but it'll need some rewriting of the time code, because Midnight's 0 value is picked up as NULL in Rainmeter, which kinda messes things up.
@GreatRedNeck + P-Dude
Do you have the stock Enigma installed? I believe some locations flat out don't work, but if it's displaying the weather from there, then it should work, most of the code's the same.
But I really don't want to install a bunch of addons and junk to get it...
hmm
I'll get cracking on one that loads a random image each day if people are having issues with the weather synchronisation thing. I didn't make the .dll, so I'm afraid there isn't really much I can do about it if it's not loading your location.
As for now, I'm about to finish up a Persona 3 version.
No worries, mate. I don't need new code written; I edited the background to include the umbrella. Thanks again.
Be sure to report back about the moon phase feature - it works 100% on my end, but I'm not sure if I'll need to bundle something else with it to get it working elsewhere.
Have you installed the font that comes with it?
The Persona 4 one uses simplified code - provided that you installed the Fixed version from the .zip file, it should work fine, I just cleared my entire Rainmeter of everything - including Enigma - and it still works. Make sure you've removed absolutely all instances of the skin then try again. Make sure that you're installing the "No Weather Sync" version.
There are now NO dependancies, the files should work completely independently of whether you have other files installed or not.
May take a break and make a Dtoid-themed RSS feed.
If a program crashes or some system error comes up, have the text box display a healing request line.
Also looks really nice with the appropriate background.
The "next full moon" bit uses borrowed snippets of code from the Enigma Moonphase thing. Try opening up the .ini and changing it to your localization - by default it's "GMT +0".
@The-Excel
Don't tempt me.
@vApathyv
That looks amazing, man.
I'll just ignore the fact that the weather display thing glitched.....
Thank you.
Yeah...I haven't quite figured out how to get that working properly for me. Then again, I'm also not even sure which of these .ini files I'm supposed to put my weather info into either.
Nah, I'm on about the fact that two icons are loaded for some reason. For now, I've removed the weather functionality, it didn't seem to work for many people at all. Before, it would use a Rainmeter .dll to autodetect where you were, but for most people it was sending an odd response back and didn't load anything as a result.
Either way, malfunctioning weather icon or otherwise, it's still a very impressive job well done and you deserve praise brotha. Besides, the random glitchery looks cool sometimes, so I consider it an off-handed bonus.
Sorry to be a nuisance. The theme works great otherwise!
FYI: That's actually intentional, it mimics Persona 3's actual behavior. Boss fight every full moon, and it counts down to it.
@Russell
Which one are you referring to, the Persona 3 or Persona 4 one? Is it the "Time of Day" that's displaying wrong? It's fetching values directly from your system clock, so I don't see how that could happen.
If it's the moon phasing, then you need to open the .ini file and change
"
zone="GMT"
TimeZone=0
"
To whatever your respective timezone is, making sure to add the + and - symbols on.
If I were to ask for a custom one, I'd be fine with just "NEXT: #" and that's it. Unless you can explain what exactly falls past the dot. =P
This is the link data's gathered from and it doesn't say.
I know jack about coding, but would it make sense to force the display to round up? Like, if there are 3.88 days left or any number that has a decimal, it forces display to 4/the next-highest whole digit? Of course, I have no idea how to do that. Still odd it displays only up to two decimal places--oh. Wait, hang on. I see it now.

I bracketed the number I'm seeing right now from the link provided. It IS coming from there, so it's not the code apparently.
Just so happens though, that I'm terrible at maths. :/
Ah well. At the very least, you can tout it as "exceptionally accurate down to two decimal places" in terms of the next full moon. :P
