Oh The Things We Collect

Collectors, Limited and Special editions, we love them, we want them, we are proud to show them off and say that we own them. At least for a little while. Now Ive got nothing against these game editions, I own my fair share after all. My question is, what do we do with them after we take the game out, beat it and move on to the next? What do we do with the boxes, add-ons, extra stuff that comes in them?

Well, off the top of my head, I can recall that I own, the Halo 2 &3 collectors editions, Fallout 3 (the lunch box only edition), and Gears of War 2.

Halo 2, yeah old news, but as for the topic at hand it is currently sitting inside the game room in a drawer under the TV, rusting. Halo 3’s ridiculous $130 Legendary Edition (That wasn’t very limited. I’m pretty sure you can still find them at your local Best Buy, as of the last time I checked). The box was sitting in my closet collecting dust, I needed more stuff to decorate my wall, SO I took the outer sleeve of the box, cut it open and made into a wall decoration. The promotional helmet, is in my younger brother's room due to his undying love for the Halo series.

For Fallout 3, Vault-Boy currently resides atop my 360, until I move back to my dorm, when he will take the place of my 360 in my room till we return in the summer.

The Vault-Tec Lunch Box currently sits on my bed side, housing the game, the making of dvd, and the art book. A very nifty use for it that I have found is that it can not only house the game, dvd, and art book, but it has enough space left for about 4 more 360 games.

Mine however only houses 3 additional games thanks to the Gears of War 2 collector’s edition sitting at the bottom of the lunch box. The art book and the picture of Dom and Maria, are still inside the box as well.

So DTOID, what about you guys? Any of your collectors editions on display, in a closet, or even *gasp* thrown away?

I am a sucker for collectors editions, I have the Spore one *groan*, the same Fallout 3, and some other shit I can't remember right now. But what I really want is the Resistance 2 one so I can get the Chimera figure.

On a side note. Sorry for how big the pictures turned out and how some are clearly cut off. My image editor is on the fritz.

Just go to my blog in general, and you'll see what a collector does with them . . . goddamn stupid "Limited/Special/Premium" editions . . . -_-'

I sincerely thought that the Legendary edition would be somewhat more limited. I mean, they should have known that not many people would be willing to spend $130 for a game, and the tons of marked down copies still available prove it, so that was a mistake on my part for paying full price.

As for display, I generally just display them on my game shelf, where they stand out from the regular games because of their packaging. Any figurines go on my desk or shelves. Beyond that, if they have some extra packaging like GTAIV's cardboard box, Fallout 3's lunchbox, or Halo 3's helmet, those get displayed around my room where i can fit them.

The only collectable I have is the H3 legendary edition.

For future reference if your image editor is on the fritz I recommend 'Paint.net'.

i bought the halo 3 legendary edition, then i met this guy who is the dad to a girl on my little sisters soccer team who loves halo so i passed everything but the game onto him. my friend was nice enough to give me the oblivion collectors edition minus the game and coin, which sits on my computer desk with glory.

I'm too cheap to buy special edition games, let alone full priced.

I'm more a "pre-order bonus" kind of guy, as I can get extra stuff without paying any additional cash. I'm a sucker for soundtrack CDs and art books (not so much figurines or any other such items), and store most of them in one box for safe keeping - that said, I do plan on getting the Street Fighter 4 "LE" with the extra junk packed in, which will cost me 20 extra bucks.
