November is here, and for me that means that on the 27th day of the 11th month of this year 2009 I, JohnnyViral, turn 21. Thats right its my birthday this month and I need your help DTOID. Now out of the many games from this year that I could buy myself as a birthday present, I have narrowed it down to 2.

First up Left 4 Dead 2

Valve, Zombies, more Left 4 Dead, and best of all Ellis (yep I'm an Ellis supporter, so suck it) Whats not to like?

And Secondly Borderlands
RPG, FPS, addictive, looks awesome. And I REALLY REALLY want to play this.

I'm Having an extremely hard time deciding which of these two games I should get myself.
L4D2 looks fun, and I know the community will be playing it to death. But I can say the same for Borderlands, and I know that I will probably be addicted to Borderlands as soon as I pick it up. So its either Left 4 Dead 2 which I can pick up and put down whenever I want, OR Borderlands which I'm almost certain I will get addicted to.

So what do ya think ladies and gents?

In Borderlands. That game is great.

It depends on what your friends are playing. Lame response I know, but I feel that the fun factor of both games is multiplied a shit-ton when playing with your friends.

Although Borderlands is still great Single Player, whereas L4D2 without real people playing with you feels a little empty.

I had this same decision to make. I went for Borderlands. Although I still really want L4D2, Borderlands won because it was something new.

Modern Warfare 2. I KNOW IT'S NOT ONE OF THE CHOICES but if you could get only 1 of them MW2 is your best bet.

Otherwise, L4D2.

I LOVE BORDERLANDS. I love that game to the point where no other games make me feel the way it does. It's good... It's really good. I have 4 characters and I've completed the second playthrough with one of them... I have every achievement in the game... and I keep coming back for more. I'm determined to complete the first playthrough with all of the character classes. This game has something that pulls you in and doesn't let go. I've played it every day since it came out on Oct 20th... I love it... I played the L4D2 demo and it was great as well... but Borderlands has something that I haven't seen in a game for far too long... complete fun and progression that feels almost infinite, it's a good feeling every time I play.

I am going to have to disagree. I just returned Borderlands, had it since launch. I have still been playing L4D(1) every day since I bought it, on its launch date, last year.

Then again, if you haven't played them, pick up both The Orange Box and Oblivion GOTY Edition for $50. Save the $10 dollars, pay the toothless transsexual midget hooker w/ down-syndrome, we know you want to, and thank us later... Eww, itchy.

I don't know a lot about you Johny. But I find myself more interested in Borderlands than L4D2. The concept is new, the IP is new. I don't know I just like the idea of it more.

Both games will come down in price... L4D2 will be a slower drop, but will stand the test of time longer. If you get it sooner, you'll get more value out of it, and be able to buy/afford Borderlands sooner. That being said, Valve has free play, half-price weekends, and is very much like another game already on the market.

If you own Left 4 Dead, I would suggest that you get Borderlands and wait for a L4D2 price drop in a few months. If you don't own L4D, then get the L4D2 multipack on Steam and get Borderlands used after the hype dies down.

Left 4 Dead 2, I played the demo more than I played Borderlands (I have both), Borderlands is REALLY repetitive, the online is broken, the combat is meh and the weapons aren't crazy at all.

I'd probably pick up Left 4 Dead if I were you, and wait to get Borderlands used or at a discount later on. If you've resisted the initial "OMG A BAJILLION GUNS MUST PLAY NOW!" urge with Borderlands this far, you can probably hold out for a bit longer.

If this has any bearing on my argument, I purchased Borderlands day 1 and don't plan on buying L4D2.
