My name is John Posey III and I love games. I love playing them, making them, day dreaming about ones so awesome that their sheer presence within reality would bring the human condition to a grinding halt. In 2004 I decided that all I want to do is make games so I began a long and arduous journey to follow my dreams and passion. 8 years later, I finally leveled up enough to create my own video game, Metacell and carry it to market. I like what I do and and I do it well.
These horrific looking creatures are a result of genetically assimilating raw meta-essence with a multitude of prime-organic creatures, creating a menagerie of monstrosity. We will be posting concepts and information about all of the Metacritters—so if monsters are what you love, keep an eye out for them in the development updates.
Today’s update is the Metaleech. These tiny Metacritters are not to be taken lightly; what they lack in size and power they make up for in tenacity and sheer numbers. They are always found in large hunting packs, and an unprepared player will need to be able to eliminate all of them or risk a Metaleech attaching to their ship and draining it of its Energy over time. After Energy has reached 0, however, the Metaleech will begin draining Health. Don’t fret, though: a well-placed barrel roll will send any attached Metaleech flying and disorient them for a short period of time.
Researchers Log: Metacritter 01
Project Name: Genesis, Metaleech
Lead Researcher: High Inquisitor Marcus Ceare
Date: 0345 Hours, September 9th, 2272 AD
“Another great success today!” High Inquisitor Ceare fails at holding back his sheer excitement. “Not even 24 hours after the birth of my Metacell, I created life, again!” Ceare pauses briefly and mutters something silently to himself. He clears his throat, continuing, “The most recent success is from my little pet project that I have decided to call Metacritters.” He chuckles softly to himself. “I have been emulating some of the same principles I found in my first success with higher primeverse life forms.” Ceare breathes in as he sifts through the stacks of notes that are towering on his desk. “Today I gave life to the Metaleech. Its size is around that of a common mouse, but despite its small size it is incredible. It seems to have an uncontrollable urge to feed, almost gluttonous...” He trails off, his thoughts taking him over. He quickly recovers, continuing with his notes. “The most amazing thing is that it can consume any form of energy and use it as sustenance.” After a pause, he sighs, “Simply amazing.” The sincerity in his words is obvious. “A few tests have yielded extremely unexpected results—it literally bored through the housing of a flashlight and attached itself to the battery, exhibiting its ability to absorb energy in the form of electricity. As far as organic matter, it drained a full grown rabbit of everything, leaving behind only the hide. Its saliva seems to have an effect on what it is feeding on, changing the substance’s composition to render it completely safe to consume—“ Ceare’s words are cut off by a lab assistant rushing in.
“High Inquisitor!” the researcher attempts to catch his breath. “You are needed in the Genesis lab!”
Chris and I have been in the early stages of the pre-visualization of Metacell 2: Beyond the Gate, the exciting sequel to our first game, Metacell. We are at the part of the development cycle where we need backing through the "pre-ordering of custom collectors editions". We have launched our kickstarter campaign to attempt to generate early adopter interest and get this game made.
There is a lot of information that I can go into about this project in terms of backing, rewards, game design etc. but I will just list some key aspects of the project here and further information can be found on our Kickstarter project page. Also check back, I will be keeping this community involved with our development cycle so look back later for some neat updates.
Metacell 2: Beyond the Gate is going to be a single/multiplayer sci-fi SRPG (shooter-role-playing game). Our video and Kickstarter project page give a great overview of what we have in store.
The cool stuff,
We got some really cool swag for backers, here are a few. You can see them all at the Kickstarter project page.
$1 An exclusive hi-res background of Metacell 2 for your computer and smartphone, emailed to you, closed beta access and a high five when we see you (if we see you). \o/\o/
$5 The $1 pledge prize and a digital copy of Metacell 1 and 2.
$10 The $1 and $5 dollar pledge prize and your name or someone else's in the special thanks.
$25 (Limited: Determined by Number of Backers) The $1, $5, and $10 pledge prize and a Limited Edition Physical Collectors Edition With a Copy of Metacell 1 and 2 with OST and a exclusive poster signed by the Metacell team.
Kickstarter gives you the ability to surpass your pledge goal, so I have broken down how additional funds will be spent from backers.
144% [$99,360] Mac and Linux release of Metacell 1 and 2 (Tom has to build it into the engine, and that takes a lot of time.)
190% [131,100] Metacell 1 and 2 ports to iOS, Droid mobile and tablet versions designed specifically for the use on the intended device, will be placed into production.
200% [$138,000] The game is $1 forever. Pretty much all sales will pumped into the pre-visualization, pre-production and production of our super secret next project. Here's a sneak peak of some concept art for it.
212% [$146,280] Metacell i and Metacell ii, two exclusive iOS, Droid mobile and tablet versions designed specifically for the use on the intended device, will be placed into production. Again, all sales from Metacell 2 will be going into the development cycle of our super secret next project.
400% [$276,000] The game is free forever, which means we have reached enough to place our super secret next project that would have been our next Kickstarter.com crowd funding campaign (not Metacell 3) into fully funded development!
600% [$414,000] Metacell 2 game source code will become a public domain, allowing anyone to acquire and play around with it, and we ask just one thing: remember the kindness and pass it along! Let’s support and strengthen the community :D. Also, we will begin production on Metacell 3, the final and exciting conclusion of the journey of Dominic and his crew. What we make from 400% to 600% and BEYOND will be poured into the epic conclusion of the Metacell Saga (man I am getting excited!) That game will need a lot of financial support so you will probably see us back on Kickstarter when that time comes asking for the community’s help to finish it off!
