The original Duke Nuke 'Em at GOG!
John B | 3:40 PM on 02.26.2009 8 comments

I hate sounding like some kind of a GOG sales rep, but in fairness I did submit this to the D-toid guys this morning. The front page has been pretty busy with other stuff. So, I'm not surprised that they didn't get it posted.

I just got my regular e-mail from the folks at Good Old Games and it turns out they they made a deal with Apogee to get Duke Nuke Em (the original one, not the vaporware one), Rise of the Triad, and Blake Stone! I can't even think about how many hours I burned up playing the original Duke Nuke Em!

No, these obviously don't have ZOMG HD GRAFX, but I don't care. I bought Duke immediately. For $6 and no DRM, f*ck yeah!!! What's funny is that the extras that come with it take up more MB than the game itself!

Since they have Apgoee on board, I hope that Commander Keen is next...

:D God damn it, that's twice!!

No biggie. The more people that get the word out, the better! Beside, I'm on the east coast, so the day is over for me.

HAHAHAHA. I did this much earlier on but the day was filled up with stories until this time slot. Talk about timing.

Cool!

I got the e-mail as well but I couldn't read it all as I had to jet for work!

Actually, this is the original Duke Nukem.

It was a 2D sidescroller. They made 3 of them this way.

Sicknasty:There was one game split into 3 episodes, then there was Duke Nukem 2, which was also sidescrolling (but with different graphics and slightly different gameplay).

I wish my floppy of Duke 1 still worked. Maybe GOG will get the actual original up.

This certainly is a good sign. If the current (and soon-to-be) Apogee lineup sell well, maybe Apogee will release the rest. GOG is going to force me to use my credit card a lot at this rate -- and I love it!

As much as I love Duke Nukem 3D (I use to absolutely school bitches at LAN parties) I would rather have the side scroller run and guns.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

 about me

As one of the oldest members of Dtoid, (I'll be 40 as of January 2010) I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 was a brand new item, and thousands of my teenage hours were dedicated to the Commodore 64 and the new 300-baud modems. (That's .00003 of a megabit per second, for those of you who only know broadband.)

I'm proud to say that I'm a member of the first-generation of gamers, and I still use my PC and each of the three current-gen consoles regularly -- and not for "casual" games. Bring on the Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age, and GTA4!!

So, I give a big PHUCK YOU!!! to anyone who thinks that video games are for kids! As far as I'm concerned, they haven't been for kids for over 20 years.

GAME ON!
