At least, not in the way some people seem to think.

Sony stated that the PS3 would have a 10 year lifespan at the peak of their PR bullshit-a-thon.

Yes, the PS3 will still be on the market in 2016.

Yes, you should expect the next Playstation console on the market at or before 2012.

Yes, people will continue to buy the PS3 after the launch of the new console, but all of us reading this will have our eyes on the next Playstation by then.

Yes, the PS3 will continue to get better and better.

I agree, the PS3 is great, but it won't see the success the PS2 was able to attain.

I agree. It'll be on the market as a Blu-Ray player, but the PS4 will be out and all eyes will be on that.

PS2 had so much more energy out of the gate and during its first two years on the market. This is pretty much a no-brainer.

Yep. I believe they meant 10 year lifespan as how the PS1 had and the PS2 is currently on its way to a 10 year lifespan. If people understood it differently then they assumed they meant the next playstation will not release until after 10 years from PS3 launch. Of course my assumption could be wrong too. We'll see in a few years.

If its anything like the first year of PS3, a lot more people will still get the last-gen version.

But then, I've always thought Playstations were like Star Trek movies - the odd-numbered ones aren't as good. So I'll be looking forward to the PS4 in 2012, about the time I can replace my PS2 :D

If PS3 continues to sell in 2016, then it is a 10 year system. and yes, same applies to other consoles, not just PS2.
