Gaming Bed 2.0
Joe Burling | 8:50 PM on 04.12.2009 63 comments

I am proud to announce that Gaming Bed 2.0 is complete!

It started as a dream... a dream where I was able to play all of my video games from bed in both comfort and style.

As you can see, there are only input and output devices at the desk. I wanted to avoid a bunch of noisy computers/consoles near my bed. All of the toys are in an opposite corner, with all wires running through a conduit under my window.

Everything is running analog audio into a mixer at my desk. This allows me to control the volume of each channel individually. The audio all runs into a Bose speaker system with simulated surround sound, with the speakers built into my bed. There is also a master audio control on the ledge of my bed.

Oh and yes, that second monitor is on a 3 foot swing arm and moves over my bed (and tilts down) for easy viewing. The swing arm does not need to be tightened when it is moved. I simply position the 22" Samsung LCD where I want it and it stays there. In case you were wondering, the other monitor is a 19" Westinghouse.

Here are where the toys are. I have a PS3 and 360 hooked up in the shelving unit, with my PC (Windows 7) off to the side. I ran a CAT 6 cable through my ceiling and wall and into a compartment under my PS3 where it meets my router. Proudly, my entire network is gigabit. No visible wires! :)

These next pictures didn't turn out well, but it gives you an idea of how it looks from the bed. The LCD is a little crooked in this picture, but that's easy enough to fix by grabbing the LCD on each side and rotating it.

The light can be turned off via remote control. I think I'm going to go lay in bed and do some gaming. Goodnight!!!

Most ironic gaming moment of 2009
Joe Burling | 7:37 PM on 01.01.2009 20 comments

While playing Call of Duty World at War with Nino, I realized something a little ironic about our scores on the world leaderboards.

Then it got even creepier...

I know what you're thinking: There was no way.

[Editors note: The use of the word "ironic" in this cblog is not the literal meaning of the word, but rather a product of 90's pop culture and slang.]

No matter what side of the fence you are on, put your fanboyism aside and enjoy this look back at the beginning of the the downward spiral for Sony and the PS3.

You've come a long way, Sony. Keep it up!

The PS3 will not have a 10 year lifespan
Joe Burling | 10:44 PM on 06.25.2008 19 comments

At least, not in the way some people seem to think.

Sony stated that the PS3 would have a 10 year lifespan at the peak of their PR bullshit-a-thon.

Yes, the PS3 will still be on the market in 2016.

Yes, you should expect the next Playstation console on the market at or before 2012.

Yes, people will continue to buy the PS3 after the launch of the new console, but all of us reading this will have our eyes on the next Playstation by then.

Yes, the PS3 will continue to get better and better.

Yes, Topher is all pimp and shit.

How MGS4 stacks up against other games this generation
Joe Burling | 11:25 AM on 06.22.2008 32 comments

The release of Metal Gear Solid 4 has spawned a lot of questions, such as whether MGS4 will be GOTY, or whether or not MGS4 is a reason to buy a PS3. I decided to do some digging, so I jumped over to Metacritic to read up on MGS4. I found that MGS4 had been given a LOT of perfect scores, and has grabbed a lot of reviewers by the nuts. Then I wondered how many perfect scores GTA4 got. Then Halo 3. Pretty soon, I had collected muchos stats about perfect scores given this generation, and I thought it was worth a cblog.

I compiled a list of all PS3 and 360 games on Metacritic which received five or more perfect scores. Here is that list...

1) Grand Theft Auto IV (360) - 46
2) Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) - 36
3) Bioshock (360) - 33
4) Halo 3 (360) - 20
5) Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) = 20
6) Gears of War (360) = 19
7) Orange Box (360) = 18
8) Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (360) = 18
9) Call of Duty 4 (360) = 14
10) Call of Duty 4 (PS3) = 11
11) Mass Effect (360) = 11
12) Rock Band (360) = 10
13) Guitar Hero 2 (360) = 9
14) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destructoin (PS3) = 7
15) Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (360) = 6

I know what you are wondering. Where are some of the PS3 games like Orange Box, Oblivion, Rock Band and Uncharted? They all failed to produce five or more perfect scores. Orange Box (PS3) had 3 perfect scores, Oblivion (PS3) had 3 perfect scores, Rock Band (PS3) had 3 perfect scores, and Uncharted (PS3) had 2 perfect scores. All this does is help show that, so far, multiplatform games (for the most part) are getting better scores on the 360.

So how does that break down per console?

360
GTA4 - 46
Bioshock - 33
Halo 3 - 20
Gears of War - 19
Orange Box - 18
Oblivion - 18
COD4 - 14
Mass Effect - 11
Rock Band - 10
Guitar Hero 2 - 9
GRAW - 6
TOTAL = 204

PS3
GTA4 - 36
MGS4 - 20
COD4 - 11
Ratchet & Clank - 7
TOTAL = 74

I think it is safe to say that MGS4 is the "Gears of War" of the PS3. Both games received around 20 perfect scores and both games were 3rd party titles that went exclusive (at least for now). Since MGS4 was published by Konami, a 3rd party publisher, it seems very reasonable to think that we may see MGS4 on the 360 in the future. However, since Gears of War is published by Microsoft Game Studios, I wouldn't go holding your breath for a Gears PS3 release.

What do you all think? Is this proof that games are better on the 360? Do you think MGS4 should have more perfect scores? Is CTZ the sexiest man alive? What does this all mean?
