You will eventually find out that there has always been a video game series I have always been fond of. And that series is Sonic The Hedgehog.
Below I will do everything I can to set the record straight here for anyone who is bashing the blue blur of gaming, and after reading one of the Destructoid's employees saying how they need to make him "better", it just got me motivated to do this entry.
Complaint #1: Sonic fails at video games since (Insert retro title here up to the Dreamcast)
Input: To be fair, it's hard to mess up a formula that had you pressing the right directional button and jump every so often. How much longer are you wanting to do this? Game series have to evolve and keep up with the times. Back in the day it was great because it was "faster" and more intense than Mario with it's hardware and speed. With no consoles coming out, and games becoming even more cinematic and longer. Does anyone that are giving Sonic a hard time even realizing you can literally blur through Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles individually and beat the game between an hour and a half to 2 hours (depending if you aren't good at it)? Back then we didn't think of how much time it really took for us to get past the levels, beat the bosses, and survive all of the battles for those end credits. Back then we paid for price for a game that took us not even 2 hours to beat. These days we complain if a game is full price and it takes us hours to beat.
Yet...
People seem to forget video games aren't just on home consoles, take Nintendo DS for example. There has been the following games for Nintendo hand held systems:
Sonic Advance
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Advance 3
Sonic Battle
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games...
Yet people only seem to wrapped up in home console systems.
And, did you know that despite this, Sonic Rush won the Favorite Video Game Award at the Kids' Choice Awards in 2006. Nintendo Official Magazine gave the game a 92%, claiming it is "The Best Sonic Game Ever". was a direct quote featured on the game's European cover of the game? Sonic Rush got 16th place in IGN's Top 25 Nintendo DS Games during that year. Yeah....Sonic Team sure is slipping (sarcastic).
And for all you number rate whores out there that only seem to pay attention to a game based on the number ranks. I'll give you the numbers right now for Sonic Advanced:
Electronic Gaming Monthly 7.67 of 10
GamePro 4 of 5
GameSpot 7.9 of 10
Game Informer 8.5 of 10
GameSpy 88 of 100
IGN 9.1 of 10
Nintendo Power 4.2 of 5
Metacritic 87 of 100
You know how I feel about reviewers scores, but even your beloved reviewers loved the god damned things. Yet that doesn't seem to satisfy you now does it? Well, let's continue then shall we?
Speaking of Sonic Rush, it's sequel Sonic Rush Adventure also won IGN's Best Platform Game of 2007 for the Nintendo DS for that year AND Nintendo Official Magazine's Gold Award.
Sonic and The Secret Rings for the Wii was the 13th best selling game of February 07 in North America, with 83,000 copies. The game has since sold 1.2 million units worldwide.
And let's not forget Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I mean, they did so HORRIBLE they were also re-released for the Gamecube. Because...well, you know....bad games always come back for other consoles years after being made. (Again, more sarcasm)
So this concludes part 1 about nostalgic assholes who rip on one of the great titans of video game history. Next blog will be about the comparison with Sonic and Mario.

i liked the sonic and knuckles parts in the first sonic adventure but a giant cat with a fishing pole sucks and really killed the momenteum(?) for me. and why no gamegear sonic love? that one was fucking awesome.
@Qraze
Sure, at the time.
Now it feels unplayable because of the limited screen, and not being able to see what's up ahead.
I liked the new Sonic games on the GBA and Ds a lot. But for every good game the blue Hedgehog stars in, there seems to be also at least one bad one...

I can easily defeat this statement by pointing out that both Urban Champion and Legend of Kage were rereleased on the Wii's VC, despite being some of the worst NES games ever made.
The Sonic Advance games are very good. Everything else since the Mega Drive has sucked (apart from Sonic Advneture, I quite liked that).
"One of the Destructoid's editors"? I'm offended.
Anyway, Sonic Rush was average at best, in my opinion. I wasn't a big fan of it. The last Sonic game I truly loved was the original Sonic Advance.
That's not to say I am shitting on Sonic games, per se. It's odd that you'd accuse Dtoid of that, since our frontpage has more support for Sonic Unleashed than any other games site. I'm one of the biggest Sonic fans on Dtoid, and I can recognize he's lost his edge.
However, I liked what I played of Sonic Unleashed, so I am really hoping it's the start of a new chapter.
