Last week Sonic the Hedgehog (Or in this case Sonic the Werehog) released a short animation movie featuring Sonic’s newest adventure and the first glimpse of Sonic being a werehog and what he is capable of doing.
I won’t ruin much of the plot, but what I will say is that the plot of the short film is rather enjoyable. None of the character’s in the short film talk besides Sonic and he says one word. I like how they were able to pull off a story without even uttering a single word.
The visuals were amazing. From Sonic’s model animation to the dark and rainy scenery it looked just as good as the new cut scenes I have seen in the new Sonic Unleashed game. I don’t see how Sonic or the scenes could look any better than what they did. And after seeing Sonic in his new form, being a werewolf fan that I am and having a strong belief werewolves are better than vampires….I am starting to hope he doesn’t lose this new form for a while. I think they have a great concept of Sonic over coming this new problem that maybe could explain something deeper about Sonic or more about his alter ego form for a few games worth of story.
The running time is 11 minutes and 30 seconds and well worth taking a glance at. You don’t have to download anything, just go to the official site and take a look for yourself. Some people have told me you can download it from the Sega website but I obtained the video through other means (because it was a lot faster). The size of the movie is about 223 MB for those of you who are curious. It’s rated E for everyone for those of you who want to let your children watch this short film you won’t have to worry about anything that will leave them screaming in the middle of the night.
The only real complaint I have about the movie is that they released it so late. It would have been really nice to have been able to watch this around or during Halloween.
I apologize for not writing much. After a few incidents of real life events I am not able to go on the internet as much as I would like to. But after making a few entries I have decided I enjoy doing this very much. That is why I have decided to pay a little bit more attention to it.
I enjoy writing very much and this is very fun to me which is why I have decided to make at least one entry per day based on what day this is. There is so much to say but so little time to say it all.
The list goes:
Sunday: Déjàvu (A recap of the previous week in gaming news that felt important to me)
Monday: Oldies (Talks about games before the Wii, PS3,360 I feel will stand against the test of time)
Tuesday: Geek-O-Roma (Weekly guide about geeky things such as exclusive collectors things, Events, or funny topics like how to get a girl to notice you or how to become a geek yourself)
Wednesday: Berserk’d (Weekly rants and raves that grinds my gears)
Thursday: Gamer’s Opinion (Talks about newer games I have played and my opinion on them)
Friday: Wild Card (Whatever I feel like writing that day, could be about anything)
Saturday: Special (Think TV specials like 20/20, Dateline, or the News but only not boring and things that may actual matter to you like steps to being in the gaming industry, survival tips for the gaming population during low income )
I’m just going to do these but they may change or may stay like that. It’s just an idea I threw up in the air to make things more interesting to read without me making one topic and totally changing the topic even when going on mid rant about something.
I won’t be able to post them every day for right now due to lack of internet but when I do get the chance to I will post the days I skipped along with that days entry.
I was originally just going to reply each person who wrote to me a message. But I realized that by doing that no one would really see what is being said. I also wanted to do this to further my explanations. I also wanted to show that I do acknowledge people's input. It would seem rude not to reply to those who were nice enough to read my ramblings without some sort of acknowledgment.

i liked the sonic and knuckles parts in the first sonic adventure but a giant cat with a fishing pole sucks and really killed the momenteum(?) for me. and why no gamegear sonic love? that one was fucking awesome."
I do agree about Big's fishing adventure, I have no idea why they did it personally. I personally would of made big's levels maybe like underwater adventures or something.
Subenu says:
I liked the new Sonic games on the GBA and Ds a lot. But for every good game the blue Hedgehog stars in, there seems to be also at least one bad one...
That can be said for just about any video game series.
Necros says:
I can easily defeat this statement by pointing out that both Urban Champion and Legend of Kage were rereleased on the Wii's VC, despite being some of the worst NES games ever made.
And I can easily defend my own statement by pointing out for Sonic Adventure that it sound over 1 million copies in North America alone. It easily made itself the top most wanted game for the Dreamcast. Also, Sonic Adventure 2:Battle sold 1.44 million in America and made itself one of the most highest selling games for the Gamecube. I may not believe in reviewers scores but I do believe in sales statistics that easily show that it is no where near your Urban Champion or Legend of Kage.

The Sonic Advance games are very good. Everything else since the Mega Drive has sucked (apart from Sonic Advneture, I quite liked that).
You do realized you contradicted yourself, right? Also, have you played every single known Sonic game to make that statement? Or is this based on the ones you have actually played yourself?

"One of the Destructoid's editors"? I'm offended.
Anyway, Sonic Rush was average at best, in my opinion. I wasn't a big fan of it. The last Sonic game I truly loved was the original Sonic Advance.
That's not to say I am shitting on Sonic games, per se. It's odd that you'd accuse Dtoid of that, since our frontpage has more support for Sonic Unleashed than any other games site. I'm one of the biggest Sonic fans on Dtoid, and I can recognize he's lost his edge.
However, I liked what I played of Sonic Unleashed, so I am really hoping it's the start of a new chapter.
Didn't mean to offend. I rather have an average game than a badly made one. I believe as gaming has evolved to become bigger and better we do not give the 'average' ones the chance to really be noticed. I believe we as humans only want to the best of the best and if something is less than superb we are to consider it "sucky" or "bad" and put them on the same level as ET for the Atari.
I never accused Dtoid of doing anything of the sort. All I said was:
Below I will do everything I can to set the record straight here for anyone who is bashing the blue blur of gaming, and after reading one of the Destructoid's employees saying how they need to make him "better", it just got me motivated to do this entry.
I never said the Dtoid was bashing, I was saying his article of how to make him better motivated me to make my entries. It was the combination of bashing (though I never said from which source, something you may want to keep into consideration when thinking I was suggesting that a Dtoid was doing it) and the article itself (that part was the one referring to the Dtoid).

Here's the thing, though. Sonic introduces these new characters and then forces you to play as them when many may not actually want to. Meanwhile, Mario games introduce new characters, but you still only play as Mario (or Luigi), and not the new characters. And while you still only play as Mario, each game still manages to be different because they introduce creative new elements. Also, those characters feel much less like a little girl's fanart like some Sonic characters do...
Okay, I'm just talking about Silver and the Babylon Rogues (and maybe Tikal). While I do actually like many of the characters they introduce to the series, the problem is that Sega tends to make very ANNOYING Sonic characters. Examples include Silver, that Raccoon girl from Rush Adventure, Amy, and possibly this new character in Unleashed (though so far I only see him as a cute little guy and don't necessarily hate him yet).
Majority of games that have other characters usually make you play as those characters. Not true, there has been several Mario games you are suggested to use in order to unlock things. And it's odd how Mario is allowed to have the freedom of having new experiences but when Sonic does it (talking about unleashed) people complain about it before the game has even come out yet. For some reason it was more acceptable for Mario to have a talking Super Soaker on his back and cleaning levels than Sonic being cursed and having to find out how to be normal again and restore the power of the emeralds seems stupid to the majority.
I don't see a problem with Silver, to be honest Silver's levels in Sonic The Hedgehog next gen was pretty much the only reason why I really touched the game. Sonic's levels made me want to scream everytime I was in act three of every level only to be thrown off from a loop I didnt have any control over and smack into the water constantly killing myself due to the glitch. Shadow's levels weren't that bad, pretty much a smash and proceed kind of thing. But the controls for the weapons and vehicles kind of made it hard.
I also didn't see a problem with Silver's personality or purpose, he was a telekinetic person who went to the past after being tricked to destroy Sonic.
The Babylon Rogues I doubt will ever be shown outside of a Sonic racing game for some reason.
I don't see a problem with Amy...sort of. She just seems like a typical girly girl. I had fun in Sonic Adventure with her because running away from the robot ZERO that seemed almost invincible was a different feel for a Sonic game. Instead of running towards something, you were actually running away from something.
Part 2 will continue my counter argument about gamers giving Sonic a hard time than he deserves.
It's amazing how Sonic wishes to utilize and change up a few things. Build a world and believable fictional world where a mad scientist is constantly after the chaos emeralds.
But no matter how many gamers give Sonic a hard time. There is still something that doesn't seem right, almost unfair.
Mario gets away with anything.
Don't believe me? Keep reading.
Trail 1: Friends.
Over the decades since Mario and Sonic started to become a well known name throughout gaming history they have been through a lot of adventures and a very large library of games, this would include them meeting with other characters.
A lot of people wonder why other characters are needed in video games, especially with Sonic the hedgehog. The answer is quite simple: Progressing the adventures.
Let's take a step back here and look at the games in a simple bare naked truth: The majority of Sonic games has always been to stop Dr Robotnik/Eggman from getting his hands on the Chaos Emeralds and use it to rule the world. Majority of Mario games consisted of saving a princess who has terrible homeland security thanks to Bowser. Both Mario and Sonic have to stop their arch rivals before they are able to fulfill their plans.
Now the majority of games that consist of these plots. People don't realize but it's rather hard to keep people's attention to play a game with the exact same plot and point than the last game they just played. To balance this out they introduce other character's to make a old idea seem almost new again. Here's a list of examples to show you what I mean.

Sonic's Side:

Tails: Used to utilize the second controller so two people can play.
Knuckles: Made for a plot device to further the "Death Egg Saga". He becomes a playable character with different abilities to differ from Sonic allowing players to experience the games in a different perspective.
Amy Rose/Metal Sonic: Used for a plot device to lure Sonic to the tiny planet that appears once a year for a month over never lake. She was used as bait to get Sonic to rescue her so Robotnik/Eggman can use his newest villain creation: Metal Sonic to destroy Sonic once and for all.
------The point of Sonic Adventure was to have different perspectives rather than just Sonic to tell a bigger story and able to see how it all comes together. Different engines were introduced by allowing different characters to do things slightly different showing more diversity (either dumb to you or not) about a character's personality and different ways to play the game rather than simply just running to a goal.
Big The Cat: Used as a small plot device for Sonic Adventure. His frog friend swallowed a piece of Chaos (The major boss of the game) and he leaves his home in search for him. Also provided a different way of playing the game. (You fished for froggy for every level).
E-102 Gamma: Also in Sonic Adventure, E-102 is part of the E series robot Robotnik/Eggman creates and eventually goes haywire. He becomes so malfunctioned he instead goes after his "brothers" and destroys them to release the animals inside of them. He believes that destroying his counterparts is a rescue mission. He even goes as far as saying he "rescued" another E-100 series robot after fully destroying them. His game play was the first to introduce shooting in the game. He later on self destructs itself to "rescue" himself and frees the animal inside him.
Amy Rose makes another appearance to help E-102 Gamma's storyline after getting herself into trouble by one of the Robotnik/Eggman robot named Zero that seems to be almost invincible to Amy's attacks that's after a animal she just made friends with. Unlike Sonic, Amy's side of the story involved her trying her best to get away from ZERO in a few levels in almost a horror kind of feel to it like from Resident Evil 3 when running away from Nemesis.
------The point of Sonic Adventure 2 was to have multiple story lines that flowed at the same time in order to make the game more entertaining by surpassing Sonic Adventure's story telling by making 6 stories into just two simple storyline: Hero and Villains. Shadow was to be Sonic's Rival, Rouge to be Knuckles, and Eggman to be Tail's. The purpose was to make 3 main characters but making 6 by using the original 3's character's animations and copying them to the other three by making them seem more "true rivals". This also allowed the 3 on 3 characters to have similar levels and limit the space of the disk space by having three different programming going instead of making 6 entirely different character's level and animation.
Shadow the Hedgehog: Also known as the "ultimate life form". The main point plot that revolved around Sonic adventure 2 involved about Shadow and why he was doing the things he was doing. Started to appear not to be a bad guy but rather not understanding that not everyone in the world are as cold as he once believed.
Rouge the Bat: Used to be the rival of Knuckles The Echidna, treasure hunter that was helping Robotnik/Eggman. Her goal was to get the chaos emeralds for herself, also worked part time with the secret service that was to ruin Robotnik/Eggman's plan by trying to stop the eclipse cannon.
------During Sonic Heroes. Sonic Team figured a way to utilize the current cast of characters by putting 4 similar yet different story lines at the same time by having 4 groups of 3 having their own reason to have involvement of the story. Each group was also used to set the difficulty of the game. (Team Rose was for beginners) (Team Sonic was for normal difficulty) (Team Dark was for a harder Difficulty) and (Team Chaotix was for mission modes making the playing of the same levels completely different with different objectives.)
---- Sonic Rush went pretty much 2d meets 3d and introduced a new character Blaze.
Blaze The Cat comes from royalty as a princess from an alternate dimension. Appointed as defender of the Sol Emeralds, her role is similar to Sonic and Knuckles at the same time. The goes to Sonic's dimension to find the Sol Emeralds before her dimensional arch enemy Eggman Nega get his hands on them. Sonic decides to help out.
------Sonic Riders was the response to make another Sonic racing game. But everyone knowing Sonic could beat any race hands down, a different idea was presented. A race by using hover gear in order to win the race. Sonic is challenged by a racing pro team and thieves called the Babylon Rogues. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles get teased to the point they want to wipe the floor with the Babylon Rogues especially after Sonic finding out Robotnik/Eggman is involved. In order to find out what he is up to, they have no choice but to participate in the competition. The game utilized a style similar to Sonic Heroes making a certain character either speed, power or fly. Depending on the character type allowed them to take short cuts or advantages around the tracks that the other two types couldn't access.
------Sonic The Hedgehog Next Gen was to once again try and use the story formula seperated by Sonic, Shadow and a new character named Silver. With their combined stories it was to show the story to it's fullest. Sonic's levels were to be the rushing through the stage and avoiding danger to get to the goal. Shadows was to destroy things using any methods needed and Silver's was more of puzzle solving using things to his advantage.
Silver The Hedgehog was introduced to help the story. He was from the future and was tricked by one of the villains into believing Sonic was responsible of Silver's current time being in such ruin. He goes to the past to kill Sonic but later on finds out he was tricked. He then later on aids Sonic.
The point I'm trying to make is that people complain about the characters in Sonic's Universe and I think it's quite the opposite. I love the characters. I like different characters that isn't just Sonic and have their own way of doing things and makes Sonic's fictional world more believable and just even more interesting to be indulged in.
You will eventually find out that there has always been a video game series I have always been fond of. And that series is Sonic The Hedgehog.
Below I will do everything I can to set the record straight here for anyone who is bashing the blue blur of gaming, and after reading one of the Destructoid's employees saying how they need to make him "better", it just got me motivated to do this entry.
Complaint #1: Sonic fails at video games since (Insert retro title here up to the Dreamcast)
Input: To be fair, it's hard to mess up a formula that had you pressing the right directional button and jump every so often. How much longer are you wanting to do this? Game series have to evolve and keep up with the times. Back in the day it was great because it was "faster" and more intense than Mario with it's hardware and speed. With no consoles coming out, and games becoming even more cinematic and longer. Does anyone that are giving Sonic a hard time even realizing you can literally blur through Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles individually and beat the game between an hour and a half to 2 hours (depending if you aren't good at it)? Back then we didn't think of how much time it really took for us to get past the levels, beat the bosses, and survive all of the battles for those end credits. Back then we paid for price for a game that took us not even 2 hours to beat. These days we complain if a game is full price and it takes us hours to beat.
Yet...
People seem to forget video games aren't just on home consoles, take Nintendo DS for example. There has been the following games for Nintendo hand held systems:
Sonic Advance
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Advance 3
Sonic Battle
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games...
Yet people only seem to wrapped up in home console systems.
And, did you know that despite this, Sonic Rush won the Favorite Video Game Award at the Kids' Choice Awards in 2006. Nintendo Official Magazine gave the game a 92%, claiming it is "The Best Sonic Game Ever". was a direct quote featured on the game's European cover of the game? Sonic Rush got 16th place in IGN's Top 25 Nintendo DS Games during that year. Yeah....Sonic Team sure is slipping (sarcastic).
And for all you number rate whores out there that only seem to pay attention to a game based on the number ranks. I'll give you the numbers right now for Sonic Advanced:
Electronic Gaming Monthly 7.67 of 10
GamePro 4 of 5
GameSpot 7.9 of 10
Game Informer 8.5 of 10
GameSpy 88 of 100
IGN 9.1 of 10
Nintendo Power 4.2 of 5
Metacritic 87 of 100
You know how I feel about reviewers scores, but even your beloved reviewers loved the god damned things. Yet that doesn't seem to satisfy you now does it? Well, let's continue then shall we?
Speaking of Sonic Rush, it's sequel Sonic Rush Adventure also won IGN's Best Platform Game of 2007 for the Nintendo DS for that year AND Nintendo Official Magazine's Gold Award.
Sonic and The Secret Rings for the Wii was the 13th best selling game of February 07 in North America, with 83,000 copies. The game has since sold 1.2 million units worldwide.
And let's not forget Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I mean, they did so HORRIBLE they were also re-released for the Gamecube. Because...well, you know....bad games always come back for other consoles years after being made. (Again, more sarcasm)
So this concludes part 1 about nostalgic assholes who rip on one of the great titans of video game history. Next blog will be about the comparison with Sonic and Mario.
As long ago as I can remember I have always been appreciative of those who are willing to dig up any new video game media they can and distribute it to the public to inform, teach, and get all of us hopeless people some hope in our lives about newer games coming out as if being foretold of a great prophecy is coming. And for that, I thank every hard working soul who has done their job to keep us informed. However..
Like any resourceful central, either by a magazine article, a television broadcast, or a website on the internet, they all have one thing in common. And by that I mean the people responsible for reviews.
Personally, I don't understand how people get the job let alone how they are paid to do such a job. It's the most easiest profession in this century you could do and actually be the few who wake up in the morning and instead of looking at your alarm clock thinking "No, I don't want to get up" you get to wake up and say to yourself "Oh boy! Another great day to do what I enjoy doing and being paid by doing what everyone else is capable of doing!".
Anyone who is capable of writing/typing/speaking in any language fluently can be a reviewer on anything. All it takes is actually indulging in the genre of thing you enjoy, actually reading/playing/listening to what you enjoy, say your opinion about it enough and well enough that the person knows you're not saying shit like "Oh my god I just read Lord of The Rings! ...I like cats! Speaking of cats, did you know that there is no cats in LOTR?". If you know how to explain yourself and not crossing the line of mentally challenged. You can do it.
What people don't realize is that we do this everyday for free. A good example is a friend or a relative that asks you a question what YOUR opinion is about anything in particular. In response, you tell them your side of it enough that they understand where you are coming from, that's it. You just gave a review. You don't see us getting paid for asking us what our opinion is of just finishing a meal/ reading a book/playing a game/watching a television show or movie.
What makes this more frustrating is how apparently these paid reviewers word is law. What I mean by that is one word a reviewers game can completely alter people's perspective or appeal about certain games enough that people who go by what that reviewer said and it becomes so influential that it effects the game's sale itself. A good example of this is pretty much every employee at places like Gamestop where they usually utter the phrase when asked about an upcoming game "Oh yeah, I heard about that game that one guy played. That one guy said that I shouldn't buy that game because that one guy didn't like it. I like listening to strangers because I don't have a mind of my own. You probably shouldn't buy it either because of that one guy said." Ok, so maybe that don't exactly say all of that. You get the idea.
But the rating structure....that one just cracks me up. Either rating by numbers, stars, or other odd ways. They make this system to apparently tell us, the non-paid reviewers what THEIR "professional" opinion is and where it stands on a numerical stand. It's utterly the most pointless thing.
Let's be honest here, VERY very rarely do you see a game being reviewed that's a 1/5. A 1/5 doesn't tell us anything about the game besides mr. paid professional opinion person didn't like it...at all.
2/5 I guess means it leans more on the bad side but apparently had some fun to it?
3/5 you'll also rarely see because that much pretty much tells you what you should already know that the "it's up to what you want to think of it" flag goes up. It's a 50/50 chance that teeters back and forth between sucking and good.
4/5 Is the majority of what a game should get. It means it was enjoyable, worth playing in the reviewers perspective and recommends it.
5/5 Is a bold one, a full 5/5 is saying Jimmy got a 100% on his test. It means it's perfect, flawless, masterpiece. But perfection is what a individual thinks, doesn't mean it's fact.
And then there are the dumb 4.5/5 or the 2.6/5. I don't know what the hell they are trying to pull decimal percentage system to a already broken system that doesn't tell me anything besides the person liked it enough or not.
Then you have the different types of reviewers they try to do these reviews for:
Wrath Reviewer (Hateful): Person who reviews games of genre's they don't even like but want to review it to bash it for all it's worth. That's like me doing a review on a sports game but I hate sports. It doesn't do any good what I say because I think all realistic sports game are horrible.
Envy Reviewer(Comparing a game to another game): The ones who will complain if the game doesn't look like "so and so" in every visual aspect. These people compare games to other games so much it makes you wonder why they bother play other games. They even go as far to say that cartoon looking games don't look as cartoony as another certain game.
Greed Reviewer(Money Whore): A reviewer on major gaming websites that are showered with gifts paid and more by the company to say their game is better than what it really is.
Lust Reviewer (Fanboy/Girl): No matter how the game really is, these people will almost never say anything negative about the game because they, themselves are major fans of it and would dare not to lose their fandom stature by saying the truth.
Glutton Reviewer (Impatient Beta Players): These people don't care if the game is still in beta, they will play it and give a full review about it regardless if there is kinks or anything else that needs to be fixed. That's like putting 25 pieces of a 1,000 piece puzzle and saying "I think this puzzle looks stupid" and never touch it again to see what it can really be like. Popular Phrase: "This game would be better if they get the bugs out" Well no shit. That's why they call it beta!
Sloth Reviewer (Spur of the moment): These reviewers usually go after the major titles so much that we rarely hear about any other game until non-series game comes out 3 months afterward until they decide to do a review about it.
Prideful Reviewer (Ass kissers on the corporate level): These reviewers can be a combination of the reviewers mentioned above to call it's own separate entity. These people are the ones who will be impatient fanboy/fangirl that gets bribed into saying a game is good so the people they work for don't fire him for saying the honest truth. These are the ones who are controlled into what they are saying for the sake of losing their status and employment.
Through all I have said, truth is that we don't have any use for employed reviewers. Those who listen to reviewers don't have their own opinion, easily influenced, and more than likely struggling for money so much their expenses are planned like a chess board or it will completely ruin them.
All we really need is to just play them ourselves and have our own opinion.
