New guy from Texas here, and I'd like to fight some bullshit. So let me know what I can do to help out. You have my support
I'm already there waiting for you guys.
I still think that a calm, cold collection of evidence is the way to embarass and expose the stupidity behind this decision. It's no good just getting a bunch of gamers together and then doing something funny, they (recationary establishments) already think we're a bunch of aliens, so a collective of gamers protesting in a gamey way will not convince anyone.
There is cold hard evidence out there which proves that the BBFC is talking bollocks, it not only proves they are talking wank, it also goes on to explain that films and television have a psychological affect on people in ways that a game cannot have. This is 100% proof from independent studies. The reason I stress evidence is that we don't want to get drawn into a "it's your word against mine" debate, if that happens, gamers lose because they think we are hell spawn anyway. Instead if we show intelligence and collect credible data, we will be taken seriously.
My personal response would be to use this evidence as part 1 of the protest, part 2 would be to highlight many other forms of entertainment that are more disturbing, both visually & psychologically - Films, books/comics, TV & advertising.
Basically we need to show that in the 21st century a UK citizen is allowed to fuck like a bunny at 16, get pregnant and have an abortion, smoke like a chimney at 16, drink like a fish at 18 then go out fighting and pissing on the streets, rent & buy hardcore porn movies at 18, rent & buy stupidly violent torture fetish movies at 18, have access to all kinds of twisted shit on the net...but despite all this, in 2007 they are not allowed to play a damn game. Any protest has to expose this illogical decision.
I'm here in the US, but you have my full support, if there's anything I can do to help out.
I'm a UK bloke so I am in too. I don't mind throwing a sickie for anything but weekends would be nice. I could probably get a few friends in on it too.
Zardoz speaks the truth.
We can buy/watch/do whatever the hell want once we hit 18 in this country and yet they're refusing to let us play a video game.
It's just not right damn it!
Also, any word yet on what the actual plan of action is yet?
i think zardoz has got the right idea. beat them at their own game i say. so in an attempt to be funny, "Zardoz Has Spoken"
I AM KILLBOT!!
I`ve signed up to offer any help I can in combating these nanny state antics thrown up by the BBFC.
You can always count on the KILLBOT!
Sign me up for this one, s'il vous-plait.
Irish, but I'm with you. If the UK drops the ban, ireland will probably follow suit.
Damn drunkness for slownessity....im down with this. I hate to be nannied by people who think they know whats good for us.
Its an absolute disgrace that manhunt 2 has been banned, its just another piss take from the nanny state. Who has the right to tell adults over the age of 18 what they can and cant play, the whole system is riddled with hypocracy and bull s***.
I'm in too - also a Brit. I would've been here sooner but that Orange ad was making this site a living nightmare.
I know that this isn't just about Manhunt 2, and I'm definitely up for getting into the wider debate, but I wanted to mention something about the way it has been reported on in the mainstream British press.
Every newspaper I've read has essentially bundled the news in with a piece of news about a completely different game, Law and Order - which features a shot of Jamie Bulger (a little boy who was murdered by two slightly older boys back in the mid-90s).
Now, the BBFC didn't have a problem with Law and Order, it was on sale - it was the UK distributor, Global Software, who pulled the game after complaints. But the Average Joe scanning the newspaper is going to walk away thinking that the BBFC banned a game called Manhunt 2 because it featuers the sick recreation of Bulger's murder - I'm not even kidding, I heard somebody saying much the same thing at work this morning.
So, I'll happily join this campaign any way I can -I can talk about videogames as art until the cows come home- but I am still extremely pissed~off that the game isn't getting a UK release, and will definitely be getting one from Spain or whichever PAL country decides to treat its citizens like adults. The Wii version got a lot of praise in the gaming press this month, and if there's one thing the Wii is lacking, it's mindless gore.
"DOWN WITH THE BBFC WHILE THEY CENSOR OUR CHOICE MEDIA OUTLET", should be our chant
catchy ain't it?
I too am British and pissed. Let me know what I can do to help.
I'm in.
Count me in. Yay for all the Dtoid Brits.
I'm in, this kind of blind demonisation by people who are largely ignorant of gaming just has to stop. Obviously this has to be a well thought out and intelligent campaign (not "BBFC are teh suck, lol") so it might take some time but we've GOT to do SOMETHING or this will be the beginning of a new era of censorship.
I'm not from the UK, but I'll do what I can. Count me in Sterling
I live in the U.S. . . . and I don't even like ManHunt . . but I'll do what ever I can to help, cuz that kind of censorship is just wrong.
