This is how Podcastle rolls ...
Jim Sterling | 7:26 AM on 02.01.2008 46 comments

Here's a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how we plan out each and every delicious episode of The Podcastle. As you can see, I spend my time making sensible suggestions and sticking to the point, while Wardrox is intent on messing about and making jokes.

At the end of the convo, you will get to see that WE WANT SOMETHING FROM YOU! We want your suggestions as to your favorite games to come out of Europe, so we can formulate a list before the next show. You'll get to see exactly what games we're talking about before the show even "airs," plus -- ONE MYSTERY GAME IN THE NUMBER ONE SLOT! Oh FUCK me, what fucking MYSTERY! SHIT! Swearing is great. ARSE!

[13:19] wardrox: Any idea what were doing for the next one?
[13:20] Jim Sterling: Not too sure yet
[13:20] wardrox: we could try a top 5 list.. but might still be too soon
[13:20] Jim Sterling: I'm for it
[13:21] Jim Sterling: It's simple and structured
[13:21] wardrox: I say make a cblog asking what people would like us to talk about, but word it so it doesnt sound like we don't know
[13:21] wardrox: Top 5 things we miss out on
[13:21] wardrox: or... Top 5 ways to improve UK gaming?
[13:21] wardrox: or something
[13:22] wardrox: need to get a list, then make sure we don't overlap
[13:24] Jim Sterling: Top five games to come out of the UK
[13:24] wardrox: ooh
[13:24] wardrox: good
[13:24] Jim Sterling: It's what they pay me to be
[13:24] wardrox: Maybe out of Europe?
[13:25] Jim Sterling: Haha, what other country makes games?
[13:25] wardrox: France has loa
[13:25] Jim Sterling: Holland? Do they make De Freuchen Deuchen Clog Dance II?
[13:25] wardrox: *loads
[13:25] wardrox: lol
[13:25] wardrox: Doesnt italie make a few?
[13:25] wardrox: *goes to wiipedia*
[13:26] Jim Sterling: Mostly just games about pizza and hitting women.
[13:26] Jim Sterling: Like "Pizza Woman Hitter Deluxe"
[13:26] wardrox: damn right
[13:26] Jim Sterling: Or "The Tale of the Pizza and the Woman that Kept Getting Hit"
[13:27] wardrox: lol
[13:27] Jim Sterling: "Final Fantasy: Hitting a Woman, Eating a Pizza Edition"
[13:27] Jim Sterling: Sephirothio was awesome in that one.
[13:27] wardrox: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5495&Itemid=2
[13:27] wardrox: "EUROPE'S TOP 50 GAME STUDIOS"
[13:27] wardrox: lol
[13:27] Jim Sterling: 50? I don't have enough time in my day to talk about ten things on any given subject.
[13:27] wardrox: haha
[13:28] Jim Sterling: Haha, Europe is a creative powerhouse, this says.
[13:28] wardrox: "Blue Byte" are from Germany
[13:28] Jim Sterling: Creative at NOT BEING GOOD!
[13:28] wardrox: Bagsy Settlers
[13:28] Jim Sterling: We won
[13:28] wardrox: I WIN
[13:28] wardrox: yeah we did
[13:28] Jim Sterling: We beat those damn French.
[13:28] wardrox: because we are sexy
[13:28] Jim Sterling: HASTINGS AVENGED!
[13:28] wardrox: ooh, The Darkness comes from sweeden
[13:28] Jim Sterling: They shot our king in the eye, but we made DUNGEON KEEPER, BITCH
[13:28] wardrox: haha
[13:28] wardrox: this ep could be made of win
[13:29] wardrox: or at least luls
[13:29] wardrox: we could alternate discussion/lols type episodes?
[13:29] Jim Sterling: I say, top games to come out of Europe, and I use this awesome convo to get suggestions from those filthy peas... awesome Dtoid community members.
[13:29] wardrox: lol
[13:29] wardrox: sounds good to me
[13:29] Jim Sterling: Haha, I just said filthy peas.

Also, SPECIAL OFFER, we will be inviting community members onto future episode of The Podcastle, starting with this one. It's very simple -- if you want to be on the show, let me know. Comment here, send me a forum PM or an email at jim @ destructoid . com, it's that easy. We'll try and include everyone on the show who wants to be on it, unless I or Atheistium dislike you. If Wardrox dislikes you, your chances of being on a show increase 200%.

Well the worms series of games have been mostly awesome, timespliters was great, crackdown was awesome, the burnout series has always been mostly great, and of course there is the grand theft auto series, I'm sure as hell I'm missing a ton, but those are some great games that have come out of europe.

And hell if you ever need a bored cornishman on the show here I am,

Oooo can I be on, I scrub up nicely!

Also spyro came from france XD, not that is any good!

Id say you would have to put Max Payne in that list cause thats from Finland. Relentless make Buzz! which is fun at parties and they hail from England. Free Radical are also from England so Timesplitters has to be on that list. Crackdown should be on the list too as thats from Dundee, and lest we forget Rockstar North who made all the GTA games!

"Pizza Woman Hitter Deluxe"

TM that. Seriously.

Also, me? On the show? I would love that please. I'm welsh, but not TOO Welsh, if you know what I mean. Add to the cultural stew. Also, I have played games.

Jim/Wardrox, if you ever need a misogynistic bastard for the show, I'm your guy. Also, wardrox likes big nuts.

My mic bit it along with my warcraft addiction, plus I'm not British (or even from Europe. Also, no one on the robot knows who the fuck I am (sometimes people get it when I say the words "green mushroom" in FNF, but even then it's like 1 out of 50).

For all these reasons and more (Grandfather fought in WWII) I must politely decline the offer. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't listen!

Probably for the best. I wouldn't be able to stop talking about monocles and canes. Eh-hem!

I'd have to say one of my favorites is Max Payne. The gameplay was horrible, but the story was really good.

I would love to be on the podcastle thats basically my life long dream.

I keep on doing that to people, razerangel! I was on the forums a while back and people were listing good RPGs for the 360.

"Umm, Oblivion?"

Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees, I guess.

Wait, Europe makes games? When did this happen?

And I just listened to your podcast for the first time yesterday, and I fucking love it.

Uh, I guess I'll go with Timesplitters 3. Did that come from Europe? I really have no fucking idea, but I love that game anyway......

Please talk about Rareware and whether you think they're actually talented or just a European knock-off producer, since I enjoyed some of their earlier games, but recent internet opinion seems to place Donkey Kong Country a few notches lower than it used to be.

Just remember peeps, there are plenty of other great games from the UK and Europe. Wipeout, Colin McRea, Blazing Angels, Chronicles of Riddick, Dreamfall, Stalker, Driver, Just Cause, Crackdown, Motorstorm, PGR, Geometry Wars, Viva Pinata, Freedom Fighters, Rome:Total War, Championship and Football Manager, Lego Star Wars, Burnout and frickin' GTA!

When it comes to gaming, Europe makes games that shape the WORLD!!

The longest journey is the best evar. PLAY IT YOU FUCKING PATHETIC LITTLE SHITS. Also, geometry wars and overlord. And noone mentioned goldeneye, which is odd.

I wouldn't mind being on podcastle, but my computer being busted and my perpetual unavailibility would probably make it an unreasonably difficult endeavour.

Hmmm... looking at that list there's quite a few that I didn't think of. The Max Payne, Donkey Kong Country, Serious Sam and Rayman games have always been a beacon of wholesome entertainment for me. Well, expect Serious Sam 2 which was an embarrassment.

I want to say Terranigma, but it's just a Japanese game that you got and we didn't. (jerks...)

Oh, and I'd like to be on the show! I'd bring that Atlantic Canadian flavour sorely lacking in the podcast world. Good excuse to finally learn how to use Skype, or whatever equivalent all the kids are using nowadays.

I’d ask to be on, but (A) I sound awful with a faux-British accent, and (B) you guys have answered nearly every question I’ve asked, and that’s plenty of Podcastle mentions for me. I’d settle for a Failcast appearance.

Anyway...Haze is being done by Free Radical, but we obviously don’t know how that’s going to turn out. But yeah, Rockstar North has done the GTA games, and Remedy (Finnish studio) was responsible for Max Payne, which is a game that I really liked.

@David Houghton (or Jim): Whatever happened to that swag contest for when David left Dtoid?
