The term "biased" gets thrown around a lot by online gamers, many of them indignant when their own biased opinions are not catered to. It's become a very trendy word to use, but the people who use it don't often think about what goes into the word.
Fact is, Destructoid has been called biased many times, most recently in the n4g thread that BS3 Owner linked to. A few commenters claimed we had no place to mock Gamespot because we're the "most biased site on the Internet."
Well, first and foremost, I'm going to meet you halfway -- yeah, we're biased.
We're an editorial blog, where the draw is less on the news and more on the views. People come here to read what the editors that they know and love have to say more than what they're saying it about. You can go to any old site for the news, but Destructoid is the only place where you get to see what Nick, Dale, Nex, etc. have to say about the news. And yes, we're biased -- we're human beings, fool!
Everybody alive has preferences and dislikes, and frankly, if you believe that any Web site can be 100% unbiased, you're deluding yourself. But, that doesn't mean we're dishonest. If you want a Web site of honest opinions, then you have to prepare yourself to read things you're not going to like. So what if some of us think the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3? It's an honest opinion, so get over it. If we give a game a bad review, it's because we're writing with the kind of brutal honesty that YOU, the reader, claim you want.
Yeah, my favorite console of the current-gen three is the Xbox 360, I admit it fully -- but some people need to learn that life isn't black-and-white. Just because I prefer something, doesn't mean I'm a liar. I gave Mass Effect, a 360 exclusive, a 4.0 and I stick by it. And was that review, in and of itself, biased as well? Of course -- it was my opinion.
It strikes me as hypocritical that people with one side of the mouth claim they want honesty in writing, and with the other insult writers when their honesty smacks them with a truth they didn't want to read. It also makes me sad when Call of Duty gets an 8.0 and people start trashing Destructoid as a site for it, and accusing Nex, of all people, of being a Halo fanboy.
Grow up, and work out what you want. Either you want honesty, or you want to be pandered to. And try and learn that bias, on its own, is not a bad thing.
It is, in truth, the only way one can truly write with honesty.

I just chalk this trash talking up to people are ignorant. If they'd concentrate on a problem that matters rather than an issue like this, the world would be a far better place.
Of course, the world might be a better place if we castrated the ignorant people, but I doubt they'll go for that either. :(
I claimed that?
There's Destructoids dishonesty right there.
I think we should ignore the vocal minority on this and keep doing what we do best; be independent opinion-based video game website that does not pander to anyone but themselves.
I am willing to bet there are a lot more people who don't contribute to the community (see lurkers that have been here since the beginning) who love the way Destructoid operates and haven't started commenting because they think we do things right.
IN CONCLUSION: Fuck em. Let a playa (Destructoid) play.
That's what we do MOST of the time.
But sometimes, just sometimes, when we have to be, we're a big 'fuck you'. And I love that, too. I love the confidence that Dtoid as a whole can have in its methods. It's called having the courage of one's convictions, and Dtoid does it better than anyone else.
Journalistic integrity? Destructoid is the very definition.
Non-biased = non-existant

Although linking to 2girls1cup on the homepage is pretty low class. (because its just another internet fad not because I am somehow against seeing two beautiful women express their love over a hot goblet of shit).
but isnt a review basically one big biased cesspool?
but well said, well said.
I think people (like me) get a little perturbed when a game we like receives a bad review because it is coming from a "video game reviewer" and not a regular joe and it causes us to wonder deep down if our beliefs about the game are wrong. So we fight back with accusations of bias and shoddy reviewing skills all the while forgetting entirely that it is just another person with an opinion. We tend to hold you to unrealistic standards.
Anyway, once again well said. I'll definitely keep this in mind.
Amen, Brother!
Mr. Jerry James Bias, correct?
Mr. Monocle, I am totally opposed to non-bias for the bias that gets passed around without bias.
that is all.
@kwaselow: I took the AP US exam four and a half years ago and got a 5. OWNED!!
(Seriously, though, a 4 is impressive...nice job)
@Eschatos: Yep, it always seems to work that way. The idiots who should check this out can’t be bothered to read an intelligent argument because of “tl;dr”, or just because they can’t comprehend it.
@Necros: I agree wholeheartedly.
