Gamers For Gaming (Manhunt 2 - inspired campaign gets name & kicks ass)
Jim Sterling | 1:30 PM on 06.20.2007 18 comments

Hello, fellow Dtoiders,

Jim here once again, with some updates to the campaign spearheaded by David Houghton and myself to give games and gamers a legitimate voice in the public arena. Firstly, with many thanks to the Dtoid army, we have settled on a name - Gamers For Gaming. Credit for our name goes to Bryan Coffee who's Dtoid name I can't be buggered to remember. I love you anyway. :)

Soon, expect a manifesto that David and I have drawn up, stating the mission and goals of GFG. I have also emailed the BBFC and gotten a reply from them, which I will share with you later this evening in some form or other. It doesn't really shed further light on the situation, but it's a response nonetheless.

Fairly soon, we will be contacting developers and fellow members of the gaming press to spread the word further and gain some momentum. Also, feel free to brainstorm ideas as to what kind of event we can culminate our campaign with. We need something original, fun, attention grabbing and containing our serious message. Please, use my blog as a canvas and don't be afraid to make any suggestion, no matter how wild.

All that remains to be said so far is thank you. Between this blog, private discussions and even peeps from another community I frequent, your support in this very early stage has been very encouraging and I'm confident that with the zeal of the Dtoid army and gamers everywhere, we have a chance to truly do something of value.

Stay tuned to this channel. We're not going anywhere.

For the sake of mainstream media, attention, and down right thoughtfulness, a charity comes to mind.

We must do something, or the Jack Thompsons have already won.

Awesome stuff.

Can we elect/invent some form of Anti-Thompson to speak on our behalf?

Preferrably with the Dtoid robot head on him or something.

All his arguements should also be the exact opposite of whatever Jack Thompson says.

And he should breakdance.

Just to put his point across of course.

Also, is everyone having problems seeing the blog list on them ain page or is that just me?

im ready to do what it takes to point out some very simple points to the BBFC. When i heard about this ban on manhunt 2 i first looked for the gameplay trailers to see what all the fuss was about, its doesnt look worlds apart from the last game which was also banned (after release) in the UK cos some kids choose to murder there friend after playing manhunt. Im sure we all have the same opinion on why those kids did that horrible thing. I would like to know where were the parents or guardains teachng these kids some very basic lessons, that hurting ppl and murder is wrong. Looking over my games just now i see 1 game thats just as gorey or more so than manhunt Resident Evil 4. Im sure everyone knows that in resident evil games we have to kill ppl infected with a virus, they are undead zombies for the most part of the games, but in resident evil 4 you could say that the enemys are alive. They feel pain they gang up on you and show human emotion and desire and you then must blow the heads smooth off. i think the BBFC would say that the enemys are trying to hurt you and the rest of the world but cant the same be said for manhunt 2?. well thats just a few points i have on this thanks for reading and i hope to play manhunt 2 in the near future. :)
