So, as I said in my Bladestorm review, I am still fighting through this ridiculously lengthy game (seriously, it just doesn't fucking stop) and as I'm going through the character screen just to see what's what, my jaw almost hits the floor.

Gilles De Rais is a character in Bladestorm.

Now, I'm assuming most, if not all of you have no clue who Gilles De Rais was. Well, to put it bluntly, he was, if common history is to be believed, one of the most vile and grotesque pedophiles the world has ever known. In terms of human monsters, I believe he beats out even Mengele. He would eventually be convicted of the torture, rape and murder of possibly hundreds of young boys throughout his lifetime. After briefly fighting alongside Joan of Arc, hence his inclusion in the game, De Rais spent his time studying the occult and, well, having a rapin' ol' time.

Some of the things he is supposed to have done are beyond shocking. Among his crimes include the rape of a young boy as he hung from a hook by his neck, inflicting mortal injuries on children and sodomizing them while they were dying and sitting on children and laughing at them as they died. He admired the severed limbs and heads of his victims, holding them aloft before having the remains cremated.

You can imagine, having known all this, my amazement to see him as a videogame character. In Bladestorm, he's a soldier who manipulates other people to take the credit for their work in the war. Strangely enough, it mentions nothing about the kid killing.

Anyway, just thought that was interesting.
