This is an amazing speedrun of Super Mario 64 that collects 0 stars and finishes the entire game in 5 minutes and 47 seconds. Totally fucking awesome.

In case you haven't seen these types of runs before, this is a TAS- a Tool Assisted Speedrun. It's a speedrun of a game made using all the advantages and abilities of emulation in order to make a run as perfect as possible. It's not quite as sporty as a traditional speedrun, but goddamn if it isn't impressive to watch the results. This was made in the Mugen emulator, which is pretty notorious for setting up to play back recordings, so I recommend grabbing the avi via bittorrent.

In case you're interested, there's another TAS on the site that collects all 120 stars and finishes the game in an hour and 39 minutes here.

I don't get how this is a legit speed run if its Tool Assisted.

It may be tool-assisted, but it takes insane skill to get past those Bowser stages like that.

He did miss all the good parts of the game though...

It's not a normal speedrun; this isn't something that would get accepted at Speed Demos Archive or anything. But it's still nonetheless very impressive to watch. The "tool assisted" part refers primarily to three tools: Running the game in an emulator, which isn't allowed at all for a normal manually made speedrun, rerecording constantly, something not possible on a console speedrun without breaking the game into segments or restarting entirely from the beginning, and playing the game frame-by-frame to move and work as perfectly as possible.
