First of all, if you want a decent explanation of what a Kill Box is, read this handy little summation:

If linking Wikipedia articles is bad form and you want my head to catch on fire for having the audacity to do so (but you STILL want to know what a Kill Box is) then here is the short and sweet:
Military topo maps are broken down into 1000 square meter grids and each of those squares can be further subdivided and labeled as Kill Boxes. That is, boxes in which various types of death dealing (mortars, artillery, anti-armor, aircraft) have varying levels of restriction or freedom to blow shit up therein.
I don't need to tell you that most of the time, Kill Boxes are not designated and coordinated by a guy running around with a laptop who also is shooting enemy targets from the hip while leaping across rooftops. Having tried to simulate this on my roof while carrying my Dell laptop and a broom on a shoestring, I can promise you that it is most difficult. I deserve a trophy/achievement just for trying, and a separate one for writing that sentence.
My main point is this: the name of this blog is [KILLBOX] and that is a cool-sounding word so I chose it. I was never an FO (Forward Observer) or an ANGLICO guy.

Why is Kill Box in brackets? Well, other grunts or canon-cockers or tube-strokers might get the irony of putting the word in brackets since "bracketing" is the process of dropping ordinance to establish accuracy and determine range. In other words, if I'm on the radio calling for fire on an enemy that I see but that the unit delivering that fire cannot see, they fire rounds short and long of the target. If I report that the target that I intend to vaporize is indeed BETWEEN those two rounds, then that target is bracketed, and the artillery unit or mortar team or squadron of TIE Bombers can then commence the unleashing of hell on the poor suckers I just called for fire on. Good times.
(Above: Nuclear artillery!? Why aren't we using this?)
So, that is a brief lesson in what a Kill Box basically is and why I used brackets. I hope you agree that I am terribly clever and witty and that I am well versed in all of this cool military lingo. If that's the case then I have hoodwinked another group of fools, so another trophy/achievement is in order, I daresay.
