I am a Ph. D. chemist from the University of California, Berkeley. I have been playing videogames since as long as I can remember! My past favorite games include Secret of Mana, TMNT: Turtles in Time, the Resident Evil series (Jill is SUCH as master of unlocking), FFVII, Smash Bros Melee, and many others.
I've definitely gone through phases in my gaming "career". I used to LOVE fighting games in the time of Tekken Tag and Marvel vs Capcom II (my favorite fighting game), but now I find myself drawn to the more story driven games, and very recently, the music games....:)
But....fighting games are making a comeback! SFIV! MvC3! BlazBlue! Beware everyone, Tactix has put a quarter on the screen and is challenging you for battle!
It was mere chance that brought me to Destructoid back in early 2007, and through it all I've stayed because of the great writing staff, a community that cares, and lots of new internet and IRL friends. Destructoid has changed my life. True story.

Think back to the last time you played Rock Band. Didn't you wish you could rock out to "More than a Feeling" in front of hundreds of people, instead of just your cat? Well, this week on December 9 at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, gamers will get a chance to do just that. You'll be able to win fabulous prizes in a raffle and silent action too, all for a generous cause! And if you live in the area, you should definitely come out!

Umloud is a charity event organized by various members of the gaming industry, with the hope of raising lots of money for Child's Play Charity. Many Ultimate Band packages have been sold, which gives people a chance to perform their favorite Rock Band song on the DNA Lounge main stage, along with all star treatment such as a photo shoot and gaming swag. This year, one "Headliner" package was auctioned off to a group that calls themselves "Broasis." You can learn about their (hilarious) bro-story as well as more brotastic details of this event below.

Even if you aren't one of the people performing, you can help the cause by showing up to DNA Lounge on December 9. For a small $10 donation at the door, you can watch Broasis and other entertaining acts perform with a full light and sound show.
Throughout the night, there will be a chance to buy raffle tickets for prizes including games and other awesome gaming stuff. I saw a small portion of the prizes to be given out, and it included a Mad Catz Marvel vs Capcom 2 TE Fight Stick, multiple copies of DJ Hero 2, Halo: Reach Legendary Edition, and even a Sega Genesis and a Sega CD! Some prizes are "too good" for a raffle, and will be auctioned off at a silent auction that will go on all night. Throughout this week, more information about prizes will be released on the Umloud blog, so keep checking out all the cool stuff to win!
This event is shaping up to be an awesome way to spend a Thursday night, all for the benefit of children (which is always awesome.) Even if you aren't in San Francisco, you can help out by donating $10 dollars on the main site, and checking out the live stream on December 9 for all the performances, courtesy of Justin.TV!
Members of DtoidSF are making plans to attend, so if you are in the area you should let us know on the e-mailer and join us! In fact, yours truly will be on the main stage at some point in the night, and you definitely don't want to miss that!
