Ehhh, its creative. I'll give it that. But non-fans won't be attracted to it at all. Some will even be put off by artsy depiction of blowing one's brains out. It needs a few more guys, or guns, or anything really. Well, it could have been worse, as it was made like this to appease to a certain crowd.

Whoa, maybe I'm missing something, but that's a pretty cool and eye-catching box-art. Or maybe the generic filtered burly man holding a gun in some uninspired pose with an over the top design font is what you guys like.
When was the last time y'all had a good look at some of the shit that makes it onto store shelves? I can see how some people might not like it, but there's far worse out there.
Even if I knew nothing about Borderlands, I would be drawn to come in for a closer look and see what it was all about.
Yeah, I think I have to disagree also. I'm kinda diggin' the art. Like Jordan said, this is a lot more interesting than most of the shitty box art that's on the store shelves.
A burly dude with a gun is the lamest cover art out there. Its not that the box art sucks, it just isn't Borderlands. One thing I've learned from working at both a game store and a video store is that general consumers are idiots and will base all expectations on box art. If some moron sees this box art, they're probably going to assume its some japanese game and think its gay.
Also the color scheme is too similar to Red Faction Guerilla.
Its true. I've seen the scenario countless times when I worked at Gamestop. The general public (a slow, stupid bunch) won't look twice unless its Halo or Call of Duty (or some other game where the dude on the box has a gun in one hand and his dick in the other).
Remember Prince of Perisa from last year. I was asked countless times by those I speak of if it was "japanese" game. Mirror's Edge as well. And I hate MLG, as it promotes the theory that Prince of Persia is a japanese game and that the PS3 was made for black people (I was actually told this once by a customer). I hate Florida.
@Jehuty You're right. I got to Gamestop quite a bit, so I see that kind of reaction all the time. Maybe I'm just sick of the usual grey/brown dude with a phallic symbol in his hands.
Actually, this is making me want to write a regular blog about the things I've heard at Gamestop. Think of it as Fanboy Friday, but I'm just a few feet away from the idiot who just called Halo 3 "the greatest game of all time". What do you think, should I do this?

To be honest, not everyone can run numbers in their head. I can't do it very well, but give me pen and paper and I can figure it out. Don't forget, some people just aren't good at math in the first place. Maybe English is their thing.
@Jehuty: You know what, I will. I was planning on doing this, but wasn't sure if it'd be interesting for anyone to read. I go to Gamestop every other day with my friend, and I get to hear some of the dumbest things "gamers" say. They even conjure up a conversation with me, sometimes.
Btw, I don't buy games constantly, my friend and I just love hanging around there.
Sorry to be "that guy," but aren't we being too harsh on non-gamers and others? I mean, not everyone frequents gaming blogs and knows the Konami Code by heart. I know what I know because I've been spending years collecting every bit of info I could. You have to start somewhere.

What is wrong with you people? That boxart looks fantastic! It's probably the second best boxart in this generation (Burnout is gorgeous and BlazBlue's cover has a disproportional Jim) ...
awesome box art...still have no idea what this game is about other than the ZOMG CELL SHADING THAT ISNT CEL SHADING stuff thats been running around. Kinda looks like Fallout though.
Eh I don't mind the boxart. I guess the problem is that the character looks more like a heroin addict than anything else but it'll be enough to grab the average person's attention to make them at least read the back of the box.

I'm not sold on the game either way. I like the box art though. However, I do agree with Zombutler that a blue color in place of the red would have been a more pleasing look. Maybe put the sexy lady somewhere in the exit wound image.
Anyway, I am still waiting to play Fallout 3 GOTY Edition. I held out on playing the game this long just because I knew there would be a good deal like the GOTY eventually. So that will be enough until Modern Warfare 2 comes out. Then I will have two lovely games to play. Borderlands can wait a while.
it reminds me a lot of Mad Max... a dystopian world and the crazy effing people that inhabit it. I really dig the blood/grey matter splash with the "gun" to his head. To each his own.
I think in a way it is different, but the color scheme is just too blah. I also agree with Zombutler that a blue color would be good if they were going to stick with a one-color panel, so to speak, but a more detailed shot (maybe a landscape background with a bit more activity?) would be better. My opinion- points for creativity, but deduction for lack of activity in the back; that'll work for some games, but not this one. Still looking forward to it though.
