About
I've never enjoyed writing a bio. It's equivalent to trying to sell yourself to a potential employer, but with a higher chance of not having anything to offer that will benefit the current community you're interested in joining. In an online community you throw your arms up in the air and yell "Here I am!", and then sit back hoping someone takes notice in the good you do, while on the same note, you hope you don't get ridiculed for a stupid action. I suppose at least there's the anonymity of being on the web, so with that I'll throw my arms up and attempt an introduction blog.

Lost Kitty by Adam Hughes

I am a collector of fantasy, video game, and comic book art. In fact, if you were to walk into my office you'd probably believe you stepped into a game shop of some sort. You know the little shops where you can go to get miniatures, dice, game cards, and comics. They closed ours down not long ago. Sad days. I love the work of the artists that have done pieces for Dungeons & Dragons, such as William O'Connor, Larry Elmore, and Todd Lockwood. Adam Hughes, Melanie Delon, Brian Froud, and Luis Royo are a few other artists that I enjoy. I could probably list 20 more names here, but I won't.

Although I check out the news here at Destructoid on a daily basis, it was recently brought to my attention that I've yet to introduce myself to the community. I had intentions of posting an introduction blog back when I first joined a year ago. Suddenly endless hours of work and studying loomed over my head, leaving me with little to no free-time for much else. As the saying goes, better late than never.

To begin with I'm one of the older members of the community. I'm a 45-year-old female gamer. I am divorced and have two wonderful children, my daughter who's 21 and my son who's 15. We own three Xbox 360s ( one for my daughter, one for me, one needs fixed.. ), an Xbox, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP (which is being held hostage by my daughter), Wii, GameCube, and every Nintendo handheld made. So yes, we are a family of gamers.

I can't remember a time when I didn't play games, whether it be arcade games, board games, computer games, etc. Back in school we use to hang out at the local arcade and when I wasn't trying to beat the guys in pool, I could be found playing Asteroids or Space Invaders.

Even before high school I remember sitting in front of the TV with my dad playing Pong, family game nights of Life or Monopoly, or watching my dad get excited about some remote control helicopter he'd have hooked up in the front room. ( Of course back then I thought it was foolish and he should just grow up. )
Being an only child was sometimes rough. When mom and dad were busy and the friends had other things to do, I was left to entertain myself. This is where my love of reading came into play. I could sit for hours dreaming of enchanted places or a far off galaxy.

My first boyfriend was a huge D&D fan, and we'd spend hours with a group of friends drinking and carrying on like a bunch of geeks over the newest campaign. He was also a very talented artist. (Thus my love for fantasy art and game art to this day ) When Star Wars came out I went to the movie theater at least 10 times between going with him and my closest friend, who was also into fantasy and science fiction.

So here I am, 45-years-old and passionate about gaming. But why wouldn't I be? My whole childhood revolved around some form of it. Too many people give up on what they use to have fun doing simply because they're told it's childish ( sorry dad..) and they should grow up and act their age. I've never been content to sit in the little box and be like everyone else. Games are not just for kids. Games are for having fun no matter what your age may be.

I believe I'll end my introduction blog here. Hopefully in upcoming blogs you'll get to know me a little more, and perhaps help guide me in getting to know more about the community and the people who call Destructoid home. Until that time I have Poison Ivy waiting for me in Arkham Asylum. I swear I'll get through this backlog of games before the sequels hit!!

We have another "older" gamer, awesome! It's amazing how diverse the Dtoid community really is. I believe Elsa is the same age as you.
@Venus... I'm actually just a tad older (49), but yeah, it's AWESOME to have another "mature" gamer here! (mature as in like a fine red wine... getting better with age!).

Wonderful intro... so fantastic that your entire family shares a love of this great hobby! Welcome to Dtoid! (that's just the official thing as I've noticed you around before!) :)
The more the merrier. Unfortunately, I am out of shark guns to provide, but welcome anyway.
@VenusinFurs

One of the reasons I keep coming back here! Looking forward to getting to know everyone better. :)

@Elsa

I like to think I'm getting better with age! :) Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction and posting a welcome! I've read several of your blogs and comments on different topics in the past, but it was your friendly reply in that one which gave me the courage to introduce myself.

@ManWithNoName

Clint Eastwood. Enough said. I like you already. Dang, I always miss the good stuff!
Welcome to Destructoid! One of the internets warmiest warm
places for gamers. Occams should be along shortly to dispense his decoder ring as a welcome to you. In the mean time let me say, great intro! It's cool that you can share gaming with your kids. Also since I noticed what systems you have, if you get to a point where you want to join us you're always welcome to jump on in on a Friday Night Fights event where we gather to play games! Anyways that's it, welcome to Dtoid!
@garethxxgod - Thank you for the welcome! It's awesome being able to share a fun pastime with my children. We've never had a major parent/child conflict. It's always been a mutual friendship with respect all the way around - even when my daughter's on the opposing team and kicking my butt! :P

I've seen Friday Night Fights mentioned on here. Never checked out what it's all about. I'll absolutely consider it.
Hello Jaded. Here is your decoder ring and an Illuminated Manuscript of a Precious Moments catalog from 1991. Enjoy your time here. Thrive with us. Give us your words and thoughts and ideas and we will love you for it. Such a wonderful variety of opinions and view points here on Destructoid. Just butters the thick, pulsing muscle walls of my toast heart. Can't wait to read more of your blogs.
If games were just for kids, then sports as a whole wouldn't make very much sense! (I mean, they don't make sense to me anyway, but I blame that on my own poor attention span.)

Welcome aboard! And reading is awesome - you'll have to share some of your preferred authors/series when you get a chance. I'm always looking for new reasons to hit up the bookstore or library.
A decoder ring and Precious Moments catalog. Sweet. Can I trade it in for Cherished Teddies? Anyone? No?...

Hello, Mr Andy!

@fulldamage

True. However, I'm not a big sports fan. Of course we have Cleveland and Cincinnati for football teams soooo........ And I will do that. Recently picked up a huge stack of books from a discount store for $2 - $5 each. It was heaven.

I know not to click it twice, especially when they're messing with the site.. but I did it anyway. :/
Yo, we've finally got a second Elsa up in here. Nice! Maybe we'll see some duels or something... Anyway, good words in these intro blog, and since I'm late commenting, you've kept them up with your next one. Glad to have you with us.
