What if I've finally turned into what they've always said I would turn into? A maniac. A psycho killer. A guy who enjoys quoting Sin City.

In a brief description, I play all genres of games. My personal favorites are and always will be platformers and shoot 'em ups. Galaga is probably the first shoot 'em up I have ever played and still manages to hold my attention to this day. Platformers, jeez, far too many for me to name. There are a few FPSs I like, but only if they manage to be different enough from the rest. I have my fair share of fun with other genres as well. Except fighters, I tend to be pretty bad at those but it still doesn't put a hamper on the amount of fun I can get from them.

I was born in 1990, my first video game system was a Sega Genesis and it was probably the best thing I had ever had the chance to play. As the years went, as did my interest in the video games field. Parents and relatives usually got me game consoles for birthday and christmas gift, you wouldn't believe how excited I was when I got my first SNES. My older brother and I did all we could to pool money together to buy GameBoys (Possibly a GameGear at some point as well) and eventually the Playstation 1 and 2. I can safely say that I have interacted with every Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Microsoft, and a few Atari consoles and handhelds at least once. As of now, I still play games as often as I can, despite my game library has not been expansive as it once was when I was in my "prime." Since GameFly and various other rental places popped up, I have still been able to keep playing to my heart's content.

As of now, college usually eats up some days. Whenever I'm not doing college activities, I am improving my drawing abilities, watching movies, expanding my musical tastes both new and old, partying with friends, eating cultural food and, of course, playing games.

And I am a sucker for just about anything film noir, enough so that I occasionally write in that style. Rad stuff.

I'm alive...and doing a comic project
Jack Maverick | 12:03 AM on 12.06.2009 11 comments

Yeah, not touching this space for the span of over a month makes me feel terrible. But most of November, I've been doing some brainstorming, thinking about comic ideas. I felt like trying something a bit different here. And so came this idea about a detective named Jack who wants more excitement, and his current place of work isn't giving to him, so he tries to find it. Or perhaps...it finds him. Or something, I dunno, it's slightly generic, but it will grow more complex as the story goes on.

And I personally think these first two pages look really shoddy, and that was because the art began as doodles I did in early November, and rather than do this on a new sheet, I decided to work on the doodle sheet. Because of that, the dialogue and panel size were second thoughts. Ignorance reigned supreme.

Anyway, shoddy first pages. :D

OMG :O

I eventually want to make this a community-involved thing once the plot and stuff starts rolling along. I also have a separate comic planned that takes place later in this story, something to act as a preview of sorts. Either way, I'm hoping it won't be another month before I do something in here, jeez, that hiatus was bad.

Speaking of comics, someone tell me what happened to Mikey, I want to know what happens next in his comic.

interesting idea, I'd like to see where you're going with it. also film noir ftw, I can definitely see the influence. I recently had a bit of a noir marathon with a girl I know, totally dug the style, but was actually disappointed with the lack of narration in the classics. however choice lines,

'how could I have known that murder sometimes smelt like honeysuckle?' -double indemnity

and 'WHEN YOU'RE SLAPPED YOU'LL TAKE IT AND YOU'LL LIKE IT!' -the maltese falcon

Its hard not to be a fan of them...

@all: Appreciate the feedback. :)

@Scion: Like I said, the panels were a second thought since I was mostly messing around with ideas at the time. Once I start working on the next set of pages, I'll do some reworking on the panel structure. As well as making background consistency one of my main priorities.

I always appreciate advice and criticism, especially when it's from people who have better experience in this stuff than I do. I'll no doubt PM or pester you for help as I continue working on this, and possibly other side projects that may come along.

You are going to give Chad a ton of nightmares.

I have told you before but I suggest you to draw in structures. it really helps! really! even if it's only the face. You can erase the lines later.

If you refuse though, at least you could try the exercise of drawing a caricature of yourself taking your most notable features.

And Mikey... uhh. Mikey... uhhhhh I dunno... he updated almost a month ago... yep...
