Human Cloning
Jack Epstein | 7:02 PM on 01.17.2008 15 comments

I know this has nothing to do with gaming at all but cloning has always been a topic that has interested me.

If you think about it, a clone will be exactly the same as a human being, except conceived differently. In which case, there will be no real problem.

Now, where the bad part comes in is in the current technology. How do we know that it will be exactly the same as a human being? We shouldn't toy with human lives unless we're absolutely sure that the process will be valid, and the product will be healthy.

Even if this is reached, there will still be issues. Imagine a society of clones. Obviously not attainable right now, but just delve into science fiction for a moment. Now, this society will consist of identical individuals that will have all the same physical properties. That means they will all be weak to the same viruses and diseases. If this certain disease breaks out, bye bye entire population.

A society of clones all of the same person would get boring. Fast.

Livejournal then? Just a thought.

I'm still amazed at the leaps genetic engineering has made this year. Now glow in the dark cats and cancer killing food poisoning. Next year god knows.

The entire field is a little worrying, I'm waiting fir the biohazard style zombies to attack.

I wish somebody would clone a good post and replace the one here.

The day human cloning becomes nonchalant is the day mortality is trivialized. This is a curse and a blessing in itself, but I'd love to live to see the day. >=)

doesnt bother me when somebody posts non game related material. its a nice change sometimes from the blogs that only talk about gay shit like rock band, faget hero 6 and ddr. and wtf is wrong with posting political shit. my god that shit is all gay.

my thoughts are, cloning is serious business and its probably happening right now unknown to us. for all we know, everyone around us could be clones and we will be replaced one day and soon everyone will be clones and controlled and im ranting now, thank you for listening.

by all means correct me if im wrong, but i didnt read the terms of service and i dont plan to and maybe its bad assumption here but since these blogs are free and we have free speech i think what our fellow gamers have on their mind can be quite interesting to read, if you dont like certain topics or blogs or posts, than fuck off already, unwind your panty knots and dont read the shit and dont post saying 'oh ur so gay no one like politics post more ace attorney gay fag of the law shit'

srsly.

I think one of the main reasons cloning is not a legitimate procedure yet is because we still don't know what makes up personality in the human mind, as in, who a person actually is, how they act and what they believe. A lot is akin to childhood, living environments, inherent genetics and a slew of other factors. But there is still no 100% answer on what creates, for lack of a better word, the "soul".

There is no guarantee that the end result of cloning by way of genetic material will be the exact same as the source, and hence it would not be as simple as just cloning a person. Scientific research takes in to account moral and "spiritual dilemmas as well as basing research on scientific finds.

This is the same basic reason that the current form of teleportation we have has not been used on live subjects as of yet. Because the process analyzes genetic material and recreates it and only that. It does not assess the "soul".

honestly we shouldn't get into this
but its
just another Fecking thing mankind is not ready for
chief blaze's Destructoid Blog
@ ico, the soul is not a living thing, cannot be tested, and therefor in my reality does not exist.

the current form of teleportation hasnt used genetic material not because of worries about the soul, but because we just dont understand it yet, im not going to go find the links for you, but there is molecular teleportation test currently being developed around the world.

as for cloning, i think the process itself will be fairly safe, the danger in it is how will it be used, to fight endless wars with endless armies is my major worry.

i agree with aziel, we are not ready for this.

until the human race acts like a human family and recognizes everyone is a brother and sister and treats each other as such, then things like should not be fully developed, until our minds are and we can live in peace.

Science should only progress with utmost caution and guided by morals.

 about me

Basic Info
I'm mostly a Old School and PC gamer nowadays, though I do play XBOX 360 on some occassions but not enough to sign up for a live account. As you can see I'm a major fan of Spawn and Darkhorse Comics fan, it may sound geeky but I collect Mcfarlane Toys, right now I have about 78.

Stats
Currently Playing: EA's Skate, I skateboard in reality so I think I can fairly say that Skate is one of the most realistic skateboarding games out. It may not be as good as THPS3 but it still has its moments

Currently Reading: Animal Farm by George Orwell, yes I know it's a classic but it's also one of my favorite books

Currently Watching: All 4 seasons of Futurama, I got them for Christmas and so far I have watched the first three seasons
