Defend Your Castle: My Impressions
JTHomeslice | 5:53 PM on 05.12.2008 5 comments

As I'm sure you all know, WiiWare launched today. None of the games really jumped out at me. Bubble popping, Final Fantasy, blackjack, and TV trivia don't really interest me, so the only games left are LostWinds and Defend Your Castle. I decided to Buy Defend your Castle because it was 5 dollar and that was about all I had in my account. I had never played the flash game before, so I was going in with not knowing what to expect.

I really like the graphics. It's got a very interesting aesthetic. I love how everything is built out of craft items as well as other random crap. I even love how the pointer is one of those tab things that's used to close bags of bread. I think it looks much better than the flash game. (If you are wondering, I played the flash version for a few minutes before this.)

The gameplay is very simple. Point at the guy you wanna grab, press the button, and fling/drop him to kill him. The enemies range from stick guys, to stick guys with popsicle sticks, to giant monstrosities with bottle caps for heads. If you get enough points, you can buy upgrades for your castle to help defend it. The Pit of Conversion (a can of blue paint) was the first I bought. You drop dudes into it, they become your minions. You can also buy an archery range, an area for stonemasons that repair your castle, an explosive area to send your guys on a suicide mission with a big, rolling bomb, and an institute for wizardry to gain spell casting abilities.

I'm sure the question you all are asking is "But is it fun?" Well, after sucking a hour of my time away from me, I can say very much yes. Things start getting really hectic many levels in, and that's when the fun really begins. Those bomb guys have saved my ass many times. This is one of the best games available on the Wii download right now and it's so worth 5 bucks. I look forward for many more hours of enjoyment.

It looks neat, but can't you get a similar game online for free?

Yes, that is the original flash game, made by the same people. I don't have a link on me. I like this one a lot better, though.

@JTHomeslice
I might give it a shot, but with Dr. Mario Rx, Bloom Blox, that wind game and Earthbound on the way, I'm going to go broke :P

Not really.

I'm waiting on this one until I have an extra 500 points in my account and a boring evening ahead of me.

This one looks interesting to me, and I always prefer console versions, even if the original is free.

But I'm with Mxy, I'll wait a while on this one. At least I know it's there and it's fun.
