Fox will most likely acknowledge the fiasco behind that news segment and them being asked to apologize, but I'm probably sure Bill O'Riley or whoever will be out for blood and just try to make the game industry seem like total immature/nerd/douche bags on air.
In a word......NO.
Republicans do not apoligize for this sort of stuff.
@Sadistic
I agree with them trying to make the gaming community/industry seem like immature nerds. It really is quite sad, but a common tactic. When most people find themselves up against a group of individuals, they pick out the ones that portray a really negative image (like the gamers that can't spell and just rant off things like "omg u r leik such a gay looser!! my gamez r awesome KEKE") as opposed to having an intelligent debate with someone on their level or higher.
I honestly was disgusted at that segment. I'm 15, I own Mass Effect (Because my parents game me permission and know I'm not going to fuck things up) and FOX goes and classifies me as getting corrupted. Fuck that.
I've been swearing for awhile now. No not because of Mass Effect or any other game, but because my brothers swore all the time around me. That's why I also have anger issues; it runs in the family (not anger management, but I can hold grudges)
Shitty parents buying video games just to make their kids shut up. Shitty parents blame video games when Junior starts asking for more and getting rowdy because they used the video game as their babysitter and wonder why junior likes video games better than them disregarding the fact that they themselves are buying the games and that they barley spend time with him/her because they're out having dinner and fucking like junk-yard rabbits upstairs while junior's playing his 360.
I'm having a bad day.
Hell no. It's not the kind of thing they would apologize for.
And they won't apologize. It's FOX.
@GOBLIN
I definitely see where you're coming from on this one. I've been gaming since I was around 5 years old, and even though I'm 20 now it still pisses me off when people try to blame video games for the problems that occur in some kids today.
In my opinion, there isn't a specific age at which children should be allowed to play certain games. To me, it all comes down to maturity. "Can they handle it?" Your parents made the call on letting you get the game, and from your comment (even though you're having a bad day) I wouldn't have been able to label you as a 15 year old without you telling me.
I hope your day gets better!
I gotta agree with Goblin, I'm only 15, and granted I've yet to play the game, much less get a 360 (I'm stuck in the stone age of XBox and PS2 and GC...) no one ever blames parents anymore, everything and everyone blames video games, just because it's easy to blame, because no one's really intelligent enough to do their own research, and just assume the moronic news people are right. Thus they're fed by the media what the media wants them to believe, and in this case that games are corrupting the 'innocent children'
If FOX actually placed the blame in the parents more than the video games, like, 95% parents fault, and 5% video games, IF THAT, I wouldn't really have much of a problem with their story of crap.
But to answer your question, I doubt they'll apologize, I actually kinda hope that EA will end up taking legal action and embarrass FOX, which'll hopefully slow down the accusations against gamers and games alike.
I personally get offended for similar reasons as Gamegoblin.
I've been playing M rated games since I was 8 for crying out loud! And I'm not anywhere near as fucked up as all these people claim I am.
And no, they won't apologize. They are douchebags, and douchebags never apologize.
We may see a little email whimper fly across from an obscure Fox PR person fly back, but I don't expect much else. Trashing video games as the source of corrupt children everywhere makes for good television in line with their banal editorial voice
Of course, me saying that I am not fucked up doesn't carry much weight when I prance around the internets with the username aborto thefetus.
@aborto
I love that name. You're not fucked up. I like you just fine :)
@everyone else
They blame everyone but themselves because scape goats make the world go round.
Labeling is also where I'm coming from. Shit, underage gamers were first labeled as geeky and now being labeled as murderers by the mainstream. It's all because people still see games as toys rather than a form of electronic entertainment. Cartoons were the same way. Now there are tons of adult cartoons because sometimes it's funner to see things animated than watching real actors.
Games to an extent translate the same philosophy as adult cartoons. They can be enjoyed by adults and children alike. And as long as guidelines are in place there shouldn't be a fucking problem here. A mom won't let her kid watch adult swim (if she was a fucking responsible parent and she believed she didn't want her kid to be subjected to that kind of show) and I doubt a parent is going to watch anything on 4kids TV.
There needs to be balance and unfortunately there is none when jackasses like FOX are involved.
No way. They probably still don't think they did anything wrong. :(
A careless letter maybe, even after they've upset millions of video game players, they won't make anything serious.
Man it feels good to vent!
Some corrections:
"They can be enjoyed by adults and children alike..."
Referring to cartoons in general, not adult cartoons, even though some break barriers between the two (like Mario, no?)
"...kid to be subjected to that kind of show"
*those kind of shows
kk, I'll shut up now.
If they do anything, they'll just twist it and talk about how stupid it is that EA wants an apology over a "stupid game."
this kind of abuse won't stop until gamers get organized. We will continue to be looked down on and have our freedom of speech slowly weathered away by corrupt politicians and the ignorant masses until its gone.
Now it's starting to sound like we're black people in the 1950s.
It would take some hackers on steroids to get fox to apologize
IF they apologize, I bet it's going to be some one sentence schpiel at the end of a midnight news scrawl.
To use FOX News logic: "Jesus loves FOX News and the Republican Party, and Jesus is NEVER wrong, RIGHT?"
No. They wont apologize.
One thing I don't think FOX (and anyone else who fabricates negative things about video games) is that the gaming community as a whole is HUGE and we won't sit by idly while our favorite pastime is being assaulted. Something I find funny is that Cooper made the comment "What happened to Atari and pinball and Pacman?" when there were plenty of sexual Atari games as well. Sex in video games isn't something that JUST started ffs.
It comes down to people thinking video games are toys. That they are mindless amusements, marketed to children for time wasting entertainment. What they don't know is the amount of depth in a game like Mass Effect, or the work that went in to creating Cryengine 2, or the amount of amazing architectural design in Bioshock. They won't know until games become mainstream and there is more of a demand for those types of games.
Video games are becoming more popular, thanks to the new console generation, and more so thanks to Nintendo and their Wii. It's introduced the basics of gaming in to almost every household across the world, its shown that gaming can be fun and that it can bring us closer together, even more so parents with their kids.
Soon people will see that games are just toys anymore, theres a growing amount of games making a more mass-market approach these days and although you might not agree with it, it's helping the game industry to establish itself in a world that knows nothing about it. When video games get to the level where everyone can realize that they are a digitally interactive form on entertainment, and not a simple puzzle game for prepubescents, then we will start to see these disgusting insects crawling back under there rocks with their unfounded arguments that go nowhere.
Well said, I think I already told you how I felt on live the other day. No, they will not apologize sadly.
