Super Mario Galaxy Takes GameRankings and Metacritic Top Spots

Super Mario Galaxy has not only taken over the mighty Bioshock as the top rated game of 2007 on Metacritic, it is currently the best reviewed game EVER on GameRankings.

Now granted, there are only 30 reviews in so far, and one would assume more will trickle in over the next few weeks. Just imagine if those averages go up.

Now, I don't own a Wii. I haven't laid a finger on Super Mario Galaxy yet. But to those of you who have played it, and assuming these scores stay the same, are we really looking at one of the greatest games of all time?

Hmm, I'm not sure yet, I've been debating with a mate as to whether Galaxy is better than SM64 but we both agree we need to finish teh game first. It truly is special, I'm just not sure about "greatest game of all time" special

As much as I love SMG, I probably lean more towards Zelda 64. That's not saying SMG doesn't deserve it, in fact I'm totally impressed by the amount of detail the level design has to it and love that almost all 120 stars still gives you that thrill of exploration. You really don't know what you're getting into once you're already there, a feeling I haven't really experienced to that extent since Zelda 64.

One of the best ever is a hard thing to say. It is a killer game, a blast to play, and it does what it sets out to do well, which is bring the platformer back with a bang. Controls are tight and don't feel like a gimick as is the case with a lot of Wii games, and it looks fantastic. But its too soon to be calling this game one of the best ever.

I think time will tell on this one, give it as much time as Ocarina and you just might put it in that catagory.

To answer your question, yes. I will not hesitate to say that it's the greatest platformer I have ever played (and yes, I've played Super Mario 64 and both Earthworm Jims). Embrace it, people

If it wasn't for BioShock this would definitely be game of the year. It's just amazing.

I was so skeptical going into this, running around the little spheres was a mindfuck for a few minutes, and then all of that just dissolved and I was completely in the zone.

It's earned every good review it gets.
