Damn. That's looks like a real plastic toy. It might even have lead paint it's so real... O_o
Thanks. Solidworks has a pretty damn good rendering tool.
awsome
Holy crap by the end it looks like you actually made a physical object. I am nothing but impressed.
If only we had matter creators (not sure if that's the right word but it gets the image across). I'd punch that bad boy up and get a real one for sure.
ZeroTolo
They have 3D printers that can do that. I saw it once a Cad convention.
I had a 3D printer in my school and we made all sorts of awesomeness, like an action figure with ball bearing for joints so he could swivle and he had this axe you could put in his hand.. it was cereally cool.
I wish I still had access to it to model a Mr. dtoid figure.. it would be sex.
JACK this looks really good!! You obviously know your shit when it comes to these 3d programs and all that jazz. It makes me think I should get out of the CAD business and get back into SolidWorks.
Anyone and their little sister can be a CAD operator now...
Dude that's fucking awesome!!
Thanks guys, Ive been doing things like this for years.
thats dope
I want to make that second picture into an old time radio. Very nice JACK. As they say in Firefly, very shiny.
That's actually really sweet, dude. You should be proud.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Mr. Destructoid!
Get yer haaaaands
Offa my lady now!
Very nice, Jack.
Wow, that looks nice. I dabbled a bit in 3d modeling back in high school and college, but I was terrible at it.
Wow, I’m very impressed. I remember using Maya for 3D modeling during my freshman year, but I only used it for one semester and I completely forgot how it works immediately after the semester ended. Perhaps I should re-learn it, though...
Very cool!
I have a copy of Revit here just collecting dust on my desk. I wonder if that program can do a model as good as Solid Works. Jack, you may have inspired me to crack it open and give it a try.
prettY!
Richard
Give it a shot! Like I stated above, it would bee cool to start a weekly design competition. Autocad, Blender, Solidworks...ect can be used. It would be fun.
Good job, JACK!
That's pretty solid stuff there. I've never really done much work with anything outside of zbrush, which I still really can't use perfectly yet. That last shot is pretty much fantastic.
Very cool. I've always wanted to know have to do stuff like this, but never taken the time to figure it out...
Thanks again guys.

Go pick up Blender. Its a free animation & modeling software available for download.
Solidworks is a $4000 software. The only reason why I have access to it is because I ripped it from college. I did the same with 3DMAX6.
Try Blender. The also have free tutorials online for it. Just take the time and you will get better.
Tasty. I love solidworks
Also, if you cant afford it and your against bittorrent, then try Rhino. Its a couple hundred and its a pretty good modeling program
The blueprints for a possible Destructoid wind up doll? Youve got money in the bank there jack. Nice work man!
Very nice rendering, oh and the model looks good too!
We need a may to produce those and sell them in the Dtoid store. I would buy two to protect my cube.
You should use rampshaders for the material. You'll get that yellow sheen effect you see on the banner. Also, you'll probably want to mess with the lighting; add a cyan light in the background and instead of making the robot green, make him silver and just use a green light... mess with things until you get the right effect.
Still particularly SW33T though :)
Uglyphil
Yea that would have been cool. I can do those effects in 3dmax, but lighting acts different in Solidworks.
/sigh
I haven't used 3d Studio Max since I was in high school when I made CS maps, and CAD's rendering software is ok.....so long as you can afford the 4 grand program and 4 grand computer to run it. I'll get on this free program ala Blender, might be fun.
Hint : You your 3d skills to replace crappy MS paint banner.
No offense. Cereally get a new banner, squirrel nuts have been on the net since raptor jesus.
LOL, ok snaileb.
Maybe, I should modelup a Big Daddy
that is pure tits. ytmnd!
Thats really cool. A 3D Mr Dtiod.
I've almost finished my own Mr Dtiod model.
Should be done this week, I just need to get the clothes done.
GENACON
What software?
This is not fail. Wow!
Congratulations on bringing that GPA up from fail Jack, this was actually worth the click...
Nice model.
dude I just started working for a sculptor that does 3d lithography. He uses solidworks too
that means prototyping and plastic figurines when he's not looking. expect smoking robots soon
I'd also agree about blender, I actually learned 3D in blender and it only took me about a week to get the hang of maya.
Another suggestion, like king3vbo said, is rhino. Rhino is for modeling only (no animation lighting or rendering) but if you get a student discount at academic superstore, it's less than $200 for an $800 program
BZ
Thats cool man. Pay good?
Very cool, Jack. I'm glad you are part of this community!
Color me impressed.
Now go get a 3D printer.
@JACK of No Trades
"What Software?"
No software.
I'm building an actual model.
Remember this guy (I don't think you were around back then) i built?

Well i'm trying something different this time.
Lets try that again.
Ghetto ftw GENACON.
That's sick, man. Nice work.
How did I miss this? Great job!
