About Me

Hello, I'm Chad. I live in beautiful British Columbia. I find inspiration in odd places. I enjoy philosophical literature, passionate art, solid movies, unique music and fun games. I like to create, but I prefer quality over quantity. I own a 1995 Jeep ZJ that is proudly driven offroad as much as it is on road. Clarity and brevity are my friends; verbosity is undesired. I don't sleep much.

I enjoy Wes Anderson, David Lean, Ansel Adams, Salvador Dalí, Joseph Conrad, T.E. Lawrence, Ernest Hemingway, Hunter S. Thompson, Edgar Allen Poe and Antoine de Saint Exupéry. I admire Georges Guynemer, Amelia Earhart, Glenn Miller, Billy Bishop and Willard Matheson.

Me on Pownce.

Me on Tumblr.

Systems I own and love:
NES, PC, N64, PSX, PS2, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, and Wii.

Gamers Must Complain
IvoryShipping | 11:53 PM on 11.12.2007 20 comments

It's our true nature to complain. That's what makes us the hardcore; the elite of the gaming crowd. When the average person plays a game and don't like it they just dismiss the problem or call the game crap, but we are different. We see the potential, or lack of, that a certain game might have. We see specific flaws that should and could be addressed. Then, thanks to the internet, our voice can be heard. We can email game companies. We can post on forums to see if others agree. We can write an article on a popular gaming website and see if anyone cares. Maybe we are not very powerful when alone, but together we can make a difference.

It's evident that many game developers listen to their fans, so why when someone posts a complaint or suggestion on how to make a game better do they usually get a nasty response from a fellow gamer? Who cares if what he said has been said many times before? Do people really believe they are getting further in life by telling someone to shut up? No gamer should be silenced even if what he says seems stupid. If you don't like what he has to say then just ignore him, or at least respond in an intelligent fashion. I love sarcasm, but many times it's just not funny. Like I said at the start, it's our nature to complain. If we never speak we will never be satisfied.

No... actually some people really need to STFU. And I have it on good authority every time I tell someone that they're stupid an angel gets their wings and I get a slight commission.

No, it's not our true nature to complain at all.

To me the internet is one big complaint. People whine and bicker about the most pointless things, especially when it comes to video games. People seem to complain more about games nowadays thanks to the internet, rather than just enjoying them for what they are.

Hell, I already see people complaining that Assassins Creed is way too repetitive and they haven't even played the game yet! Pre-mature complaining at it's best. The funny thing about complaing about a repetive game is that all games are repetetive. What matters is whether the games repetitivness{sp} can be enjoyed for an extended period of time.

My opinion aside, nice write up. It's good to see an actual blog here every once and a while.

VWGTI, thanks. I agree, every game is repetitive in some way. And yeah, people who judge a game before they play it do deserve an, "STFU." The people I am defending are those who have actually spent time playing the game they criticize.

I love when a game that won't be released for months will have "reader reviews" up gushing about how "THIS WILL BE THE MOST AWESOMEST GAME EVAR!!11! 10.0 GAME OF THE YEAR!!!"

My commissions are in single grains of rice, each one painted with one of Basho's haikus using a single horse hair. I figure by about 2023 I could have a complete meal.

I don't like this blog. It lacks pizazz. While it looked good on paper to write this blog, I think it failed somewhere in the execution. Personally, I blame the beta testers of this blog who failed to notice the flawed mechanics of the sentence structures and the wandering syntax placements. All in all I give this blog a 6 out of 10.

Verdict: Haloz is over-rated.

Brosef, thanks for the constructive criticism. This is just something that I thought up as I was going along. Also, I agree that Halo is overrated.

Brosef, I find that the testers of your comment did an excellent job. However, they had very little to work with from the start. Your comment receives IGN's lowest possible rating: 6.8.

Also, Halo was overrated and Call of Duty was too damn short.

I just dismiss all those people who go out of their way to defend their games, because it's all subjective. Even if I disagree with them, and I point out why so, my arguement will always be flawed because it is my opinion. And while my opinion can not be debated, I can sure as hell tell people why I think they're wrong. Not to TELL them they're wrong, because, once again, everything is subjective.. But it annoys me when people think their word is law, and flames anyone who disagrees.

It's omly video games guys. Get Over It

Is there somewhere where I can file a complaint about Farktoid's complaint about my complaint about this blog which is about complaints?

@IvoryShipping
I think your sarcasm detector may be broken. I won't be sure until I run a series of tests.

Test #1 -- Finish the sentence: "Madden '08 is the greatest game ever made because _______"

BEGIN!

"because AOTS FTW!"

Yeah, I'm not very good on the sarcasm front. I need to re-visit some IMDb forums to refresh my shield.
