I am Gamer: Hear me... Button Mash?

As of a few weeks ago I found myself playing Brawl, (For the first time in 3 months), and more Soul Calibur 4. I've been getting together with a few of my close friends and training for a few competitions being held at my local, (actually it's the only one in Tampa), Play N Trade. I've actually progressed since the release of both games and I've formed some strategies and tactics against my opponents. My friends are also very skilled at both games and have handed me my own ass a few times (I know someone is going to say something about the ass handing comment, I just made), but I do get my vengeance.

So after a few weeks of practice I entered the SC4 tournament and made it past many challenging rounds of play. Normally I use Yoshimitsu for his ridiculously intimidating, as well as unpredictable moveset, but in this case I decided to go with Yun Seong because I felt more comfortable with him. Anyway, after a few more rounds of whoopin' ass I finally reached that one kid, everybody knows that has nothing better to do, than play games all day. He picked nightmare, I chose "the Seong" and it went downhill from there.

First Round: Kid pushes every single button on the controller within the first few seconds and bam! Destroys me.

Second Round: Kid uses a single move the entire match and knocks me out of the ring...

Post Match: I cursed up a storm and was kicked out of the Play N Trade, after a few parents bitched at me.

So not only did I manage to lose to some little kid, who played like shit. I managed to get kicked out of the only Play N Trade, in Tampa before my next match (I had no losses and it was double elimination). It doesn't even bother me that a kid beat me. In fact I wish more youths would annihilate me in games, so I can actually be proud of the future leaders of this country. I just hate how the kid beat me and none of the judges had anything to say but "congratz!" to him and "nice try" to me...

This is the result of button mashing, something my friends and I absolutely despise. Anyone that does it and is congratulated for it or thought to be a good player, deserves termination! Those who don't acknowledge this behavior deserve the same fate.

So, my fellow Dtoiders, have any of you been the victim of the mashing of buttons?

SCIV could not not be a worse for anything competitive, its far to easy for someone to spam a single move and beat you that way.

Hell I played 8 ranked matches and lost all of them to button mashers or people repeating a single move over and over and over, I tend to play with a rather diverse group who use different characters and movesets and for some reason fighting a one move spammer just throws me off.

Most of the time I can avoid the "one-move spammer" but I really wasn't expecting it during a tournament, especially after playing 6 very talented players beforehand.

Yeah I hate it. I know Riser Glen tries using that sweep move a lot :P But he's not too cheap where he'll continually use it.

I played in the Xleague ladders but everyone just uses the same move and spams it. The best way is to see the signature move people use and learn to block it. Then the worst that can happen is a grab while your blocking which you can push out of if your fast.

I'm with Kyosuke, SCIV is definitely not balanced enough for serious tournaments. But that really sucks, man. Hope that kid got his ass kicked later on by someone who really knows what they're doing.

when I play fighters, I button mash.....
then again, I admit I'm not a fighter type of person. I admit I suck. and I certainly don't enter contests to button mash.
SO I'm with you in the sense that I hate people who use cheap methods to win, and then think they are god for winning.

Any well-made fighter should make it all but impossible for a button-masher to beat someone who knows what they're doing.
