Tonight, The Matrix Online dies. [shortblog]
IroN1c | 2:56 PM on 07.31.2009 8 comments

For me, it’s fascinating to see a MMO taking it’s last breath. That’s what will happen tonight to The Matrix Online. Published in 2005 by Sega, then transfered to Sony Online Entertainment the game could never fulfill it’s expectations – well, most people just didn’t care or lost sight of the development and simply forgot it. I’ll be there to check out the “party till the plug is pulled!”, as it’s called by Sony. Everyone is invited to join, so you can go to the official site, sign up and get into the game in it's last moments. I’ll be there and post pictures of it later!

I guess this is one positive to peer-to-peer servers... theoretically, the games can always be played as they aren't reliant on a corporate server... then again, peer-to-peer servers are restrictive and lag is often an issue. :(

It's sort of sad whenever you see game servers shutting down.

Was it even any good? I really wanted to get into it, it's an MMO with a constantly changing world and evolving storyline.

@Elsa
Most P2P hosting requires servers also

Giant Bomb is having a live stream of the last hours tonight. Ryan and Vinny have been doing hour-long playthroughs for a while now, and they're damn pretty funny.

Never played it... but god I love the first movie. It's what pushed me towards being a philosophy major.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
