Germany's "killer games dumping" - how it went.
IroN1c | 2:44 PM on 10.18.2009 19 comments

Some of you may have read the frontpage article about the “modern book burning for killer games” a few days ago. Well, the event was held yesterday and here’s how it went!

At around 02:30pm local time the container was almost full. Well....almost.

There were only two PS2 games in the container (one of them being GTA San Andreas), a CD and a Game Boy module (Small Soldiers). At least most germans have some common sense left and didn’t care for the event.

But that doesn’t stop the media!

The two PS2 games were picked up and given to a small child – who threw them in again. And again, and again, for the cameras. This event may have been a failure – but the media madness doesn’t stop.

The backwardness of Germany is so puzzling at times.

Ahaha!! Well if you are going to fail, fail hard!!

The reason for the bad turn-out? People were to busy playing their killer games to throw them away.

Well, we can rest assured the Germans are now a fully capitalist society rather than the fascist/communist flamers they used to be.

lol, what a waste of time. I knew this was how it would turn out.

@grafkhun

It’s not backwardness, they were and are having a major problem with kids going crazy and shooting up schools. The reason for these shootings are often beyond the countries control. The link between these cases and video games is there, if they want to seem like they are doing something about it this is one way of going about it. It’s easy to blame a media format like video games. While it would be a lot harder getting people to part with their 18+ dvd collection. The point is the state feels that it needs to be a responds. While this is a irrational response it does not mean that the country on a whole is backwards... in many other cases Germany is ahead of the game. This is just a touchy topic at the moment and many groups feel like actions need to be taken.

sockcucker- Agreed, sorry, I guess that wasn't the best word to use. Maybe 'irrationality' as you said, would be better.

That is wonderful.

At least it's a better deal then trading them into Gamestop.

That's fucking hilarious.

That's hilarious. Who the hell did they think were going to come and destroy their collection? This sort of thing only worked in Germany about 60-70 years ago.

Were it me, I would have tossed myself in there and stayed there all day, hoping someone would notice that I'm trying to make a pretentious statement.
