I'm Infinitestrike and I'm from the UK. My gaming history basically started with a Sega Mega Drive, followed by the PS1, PS2, Gamecube, GBA SP, DS, Wii and XBox 360. I guess my favourite games are the Metal Gear series, Devil May Cry series, Bioshock, Crash Bandicoot series (PS1), Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Gears of War and Halo.
My favourite boss fights are The End, Psycho Mantis and General RAM. My favourite levels to explore would probably be any of the planets in Mario Galaxy.
Currently playing:
Batman Arkham City
Modern Warefare 3
Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks

And besides. I have a few friends taking games courses, its for dossers, if understand know the term.
Most gaming companies laugh at those with "game design degrees".
Build up a portfolio.
go for CS.
You can also get a computer science degree and then do a shorter games design diploma (separately) but get the computer science degree first.
@JKH13 I got offers from Queen Mary and Kings College London for Computer Science and Brunel and Westminster for Games Design.
Go for Kings, that place is pretty awesome and the course should be good. Best social scene out of all the London Unis imo.
Also game design courses are hated because it seems to be a bit of a cop-out from what I understand. You learn what you need to know at the time but it doesn't take into account that technology changes over time and you will need the knowledge to easily adapt. Comp sci. not only teaches you indepth programming, but it helps with problem solving, logic and other skills that will come in handy whatever you decide to do.
It is also generally a much harder course and companies like to hire people that have the capacity to learn more and know how to work under stress rather than hire someone that knows what to do at a basic level but could have difficulties further along the road.
I did some research and found that alot of people were going into the games industry, but there were really limited seats for the jobs. So I figured to play it safe and stick to CS. Also, I wanted anything game related to be a hobby and not some job that I'd eventually go insane over.
That was me two years ago. Now... I am going into Firefighting because I got burnt out on CS. I had done three years of computer programming in high school prior to my college life. Though my years of programming were relatively light compared to what others took, I still got burnt out and fast.
So you might be like me and the other millions of kids in college who go into one major, only to find out they want to do something else.
