First of all I'd like to start this blog off with a completely unnecessary video, that I have just finished watching. It's not recommended for impressionable minors, American citizens, Jack Thompson, or (apparently) African Americans. Or anyone honestly...don't click on it.
Enjoy?
Now it's time for the bulk of my post!
Some back story:
When I was ten years old I loved Star Fox 64. I'd sit and beat it, then beat it again, then beat it again. The different paths you could take coupled with the beautiful graphics completely took me over. Granted, this wasn't my first Star Fox game. I used to play the original with my father before I even knew what death meant, or why it kept flashing the "Game Over" picture.
Eventually my obsession with furries in space cost my mother twenty dollars in late fees. When this happened, not only did my ass get spanked, but I also wouldn't get to play Star Fox 64 for nine years.
I had completely forgotten about the game, but more importantly, I had completely forgotten about my Wii's Virtual Console.
And the fact that it just might contain Star Fox 64.
And that I had 1000 Wii Points lying around.
I found it, bought it, played it, and loved it.
It's a fantastic break from the monotony of recent "next-gen" games, and a game that doesn't try anything but to be fun. Anyone who hasn't tried it and owns a Wii ought to give it a run. Can't be any worse than Generic Brown Shooter 8: The Coming of the Stereotypical Plot Twist: Epic Addition. Oh and there's a tank too.
I hate everything N64... I consider it the worst system to ever be released. I know I am greatly out numbered because everyone I know seems to think its the greatest thing to ever come out, but I just dont see it.
The only game I even sort of liked on it was the f-zero game. I liked conker as well. Besides that... every game looked muddy and played just about the same as it looked.
I used to love this game. I was 16 and had just gotten my first after school job at Hardees around the time that this game was being released. It just so happened that ToysRUS was in walking distance from my job, so every day I went there on my break to play StarFox64. TRU had these demo stations set up in the store for N64 games and I remember that I had completely beaten the game right before it was even released! Of course I went ahead and bought it as soon as it went on sale because it was so much fun (and also because of the rumble pack that came with it, which as we all know changed gaming forever).
I have no need to download this game for the VC since I still own my N64 and this game, but I'm glad it's there for those who never got the chance (or who don't still have a N64 to play it on). It's a great game!
I spent just about all of last summer playing this game on my friend's VC. Good fucking times. We took turns playing through, both of us quoting along with the game the entire way through. Once we got all the medals, we started with the Expert medals... I think we've still got 4 or 5 left.
But yeah, I'm still waiting for this series to make its grand return. The last two were decent, but nothing so far has captured the unbridled fun that this game managed to kick out.

You accidentally called the game Star Fox 64 a whole bunch of times, instead of its proper name, Lylat Wars. Other than that, amazing read. It was one of the first truly cinematic console games, and all without taking you out of the gameplay, which is something Kojima might want to pick up on, if he's not too busy pretending to be a movie director instead of a game creator.
Dephect, never say something like that again, the n64 is an amazing console, Scribble has already done most of the leg work, no need for me to follow up excepet this, without Mario 64, platformers would not exist as they do now, such is the impact of that game, few games can re-define a genre, luckily Mario 64 did.
I got this game for my birthday when it came out, and I loved it. If only there were more all-range mode sequences, like the battle with the four bad guys and the Independence Day ripoff.
Plus, who didn't enjoy blowing something up in the game and putting the controller on their balls while it rumbled? Come on, now. Don't be shy.
Hey, glad you like Star Fox "Godspeed", Inxep. There's lots of other good Star Fox series mixes on OCR, so hopefully you've checked the others out. (http://www.ocremix.org/quicksearch/game/?qs_query=Star+Fox)
Thanks for the plug, I'm sure The Wingless appreciate anything that highlights his self-described genius. His music is twice as good nowadays.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. I like Starfox 1/2 on SNES.

I want the Wii version to go back to its roots, longer, harder, prettier. Just stay in your vehicle!

It's Hitler Pikachu.
