I guess I'm new here as a user but I've been following destructoid for about a year or so. As I've grown more mature and have learned more about the gaming industry the more my opinions on it begin to grow. Expressing my opinion on Destructoid seems to be a smart move. So, what exactly do I think of the gaming industry?
I think that we're in the most exciting, and the best, time for being a gamer. With the both graphical and technical hardware, gaming is finally able to be a storytelling medium that can be equal to movies. I'm not a graphics whore by any mean but it used to be that watching someone else play videogames was a headache. I personally could never stand watching someone else play games on the PS2, with the possible exception of maybe 4-5 games. I also think it's great because we have 3 consoles on the market. 2 of them are aimed at the same demographic and both are (arguably) great products. The kind of competition that Sony and Microsoft have is incredibly beneficial to gamers. The Wii is important too, but more as a lesson than as a console. I also love being a gamer because, I believe at least, that games are becoming amazing. While we still have horrible games the games that are great are so much sweeter than they ever were on the PS2.
But being a gamer isn't all awesome and amazing. Console Wars, Activision, and Shovelware are all hindrances to videogames. I think that while the console war is inevitable and everlasting, I think the degree of stupidity associated with it is ridiculous. When you look at sports teams, or movie fans, you tend to ignore the die-hard fans, the ones who, when they talk about their team/movie, they make your ears bleed. You want to slam a pipe into their throat to stop the stupidity coming out of their throat. But no one really pays attention to them. Which is how it should be with videogames as well. But we tend to make newsposts about their stupidity and try our absolute hardest to troll them. Yes there are idiots who own videogame consoles. There are idiots who own every product imaginable. I'll skip over Activision, that's a huge topic that's way too big a topic for this. Shovelware has always been around but usually the percentage of good games outnumbers the shovelware. Take a look at your handheld and Wii section next time you're at EB. The amount of absolute junk there is astonishingly high. I'm not criticizing the platform, I'm criticizing the companies who do it.
So I guess that's a general view of my view of videogames. I'm new to all of this, both blogging and writing, so I apologize if things don't make full sense. I'm not an amazing arguer but I'm trying to improve and any help or suggestions would be totally awesome. I love criticism when it's of the constructive kind.
Thanks
and I guess...Hi.
